Meet the Author

Jack Ablin is an Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for Harris Private Bank in Chicago. With more than 25 years of experience in the investment business, Mr. Ablin was a mortgage-backed securities trader, a fund manager as well as a Director of Investments. He served in the Finance Department in the School of Management at Boston University and was the President of the Boston Security Analysts Society. Jack makes his home in Chicago with his wife, LeeAnn, and daughters, Elise and Emily.

Suzanne McGee has spent more than two decades writing about business and finance, including 13 years at the Wall Street Journal in Toronto, New York, and London. She is currently a contributing editor at Barron’s and a regular contributor to Institutional Investor. Her work has appeared in the Financial Times, INC, Art + Auction, and the New York Post. She is a recipient of both a Gerald Loeb Award and SABEW’s Best in Business Award. Suzanne lives in Brooklyn, where she is now at work on a book about Wall Street.

Excellent Institutional Market Tips for Individual Investors

No, this is not an actual mind-reading book... although READING MINDS AND MARKETS is a fascinating read at a time when we wonder what lies behind generic investing slogans such as "the trend is your friend." While it is clear that a "rising tide lifts all ships," some of us now find ourselves hungry to learn how we can best determine when and which way financial tides are turning. Authors Jack Ablin and Suzanne McGee demonstrate remarkable proficiency in demystifying the ways that market makers and fund managers assess how best to detect times to buy and times to sell.

This is not a book for beginning investors, but is quite good for intermediate to very advanced investors, as it provides extraordinary insights into the way that professional money managers assess potential markets. Individual investors can learn a lot from institiutional investors such as Jack Ablin, and Ablin's willingness to share common sense yet seldom utilized tips and pointers can make a huge positive difference in investment portfolio outcomes.

Anyone interested in learning as much as possible about technical trading will greatly appreciate this book, as will investors who seek a solid grasp of basic investing principles. The ideas presented in READING MINDS AND MARKETS offer tips that may at first glance seem most useful to the highest level of investors, yet taking time to read and understand the core concepts in this book can vastly improve investment decisions of every sophisticated investor... highly recommended!
