Meet the Author

Books. I love them– always have. From my earliest years, I spent most of my free time lost in a book, until one day I realized that I had stories in my mind that I wanted to tell. Time passed, life, family, and work got in the way, and my dream of being a writer seemed to vanish into the desert winds.Dreams are beautiful things, though; they never quite disappear. I began writing again, editing, writing, editing, and now I have over a hundred books in progress– some of them finished. I write the stories of fictional people who have real problems, weaknesses, and triumphs. Through their stories, I try to share the Hope that is within me.I live in a small, remote town in California’s Mojave Desert with my husband and seven of my nine children. When not writing, I enjoy paper crafting, sewing, and trying to get the rest of my children educated so that I can retire from home education.

Meeting Aggie was like hanging out with an old friend. In fact, she reminded me of myself many times! Aggie is a very real person - both believable and relatable. She had enough negative qualities to seem true to life but enough positive attributes that she was someone you'd want to know. The children in this story are all precious and I fell in love with each of them, as Aggie did. I even picked up a few great mothering tips from this beauty! In this book, you will laugh and cry with her and her family, and feel every emotion in between. The love of Christ is evident, yet not preachy or smothering. The perfect balance for a work of Christian fiction. I am very anxious to read the continuing story! I'm hooked!

    My new favorite writer

Just finished this and I wanted to cry...until I read the prequel to the second book in this series and realized it picked up right where the 1st ended. Loved the story, amazing characters that the writer gave life to....just a really awesome book. I loved the hymn singing and how Aggie developed her own unique style that all parents could learn from. On to book #2! review by CherishD

Need ideas for remodeling a home/child raising?

At first, it was a little hard to keep the 8 children straight, but once I got to know them, I grew attached to them, and am interested in how their lives will progress. The book is a sweet collection of child raising adventures. A bit on the detailed side when it comes to her house remodeling attempts. I care more about the people in the story than what color each wall of the house is going to be, but I am told each detail nonetheless. The story is FAR from over at the end of this novel, so I'll have to read the second book if I feel like it, but I'm not sure I will, because someone in the love triangle is definitely going to have a broken heart by the end of it.

    Love the story

I loved the story line. The characters were well developed and you get attached to.them early on. There was a good mix between the good and the bad parts of the plot. The writing was really good as well.

I loved this book. The characters are real and relevant. I love how she wove a love story gently into the mix, making it a strength of the book, but not the overwhelming focal point. I've read this, and the two that go with it, twice now and I fully intend to read them again. Great series, and a great author.

    Another steller read

As I review the past six months of my reading, one coyld almost say I am overdosing on Chautona;) ! It isn't the case. The stories do dovetail at times, and are pretty much set in the same timeframe and general area of "Rockford", but like fingerprints, each story is different and I really feel as if I'm back in my hometown and know these people as friends.

Aggie Millikin becomes the guardian of her eight neices and nephews after their oarents die in a tragic mixup of transfusions. In her early 20s, she has little to no experience with children, let alone eight at once! It is her faith and the groundwork that her brother-in-law set up that allows her to begin to understand and accept the gift of these children, and her new and old friends supporting her along the way.

    Brava Chautona, and thank you

Chautona Havig is such an incredible writer!!!  Each character becomes 3d and you just want them to be part of
your family!!!  Aggie is such a heartwarming person and you can't help but admire her.  Those children are
such adorable and loving little ones that you just want to hug and put in the corner at the same time!!!!
Read Vol 1 of Past Forward or Ready or not 1st as you chose and then read the other one and then
follow suggested reading order on her blog.  If you haven't tried her, give her a try.  You won't be sorry!!!!!

    Fun & lovable characters

I recently "found" this author and I enjoy each book because of the character development. It is easy to get caught up in their lives and although the books are lengthy you do not realize it. This is a light, easy book to read when you want a light but engaging read. It is a Christian fiction novel. Enjoy! I look forward to reading book #2.
