Overview

What do a bar of soap, a basket of empty Easter eggs, and a foam pool noodle have in common? All are readily available props you can use with some of the fifty-two fun-filled object lessons in Ready, Set, Go! Unlike many children's sermons that are too abstract and difficult for children to understand, these messages promise to engage children and adults alike, inspiring and teaching at the same time.

Each lesson includes a list of objects to use, a to-do list, suggestions for prayer and spiritual preparation, and a complete sermon with "stage directions." The first section features messages for special days of the year—Palm Sunday, Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day, and others—while the second includes general subjects. Helpful indexes aid you in locating sermons by Scripture reference and topic.

Ready, Set, Go! offers creative jump-starts to help you develop new sermons as well. It is an excellent resource for harried pastors, worship leaders, and anyone else responsible for planning children's lessons.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Intended for use in church schools, this book of short lessons with a particular purpose in mind is intended for use by adults who work with children. Each lesson uses an object such as a puppet or bag containing some item to help focus the children's attention as they listen to the mini-sermon. Each lesson is organized with 'The Point of It All' first, 'Objects', you will need to collect, 'To Dos', preparation needed, and 'Ready, Set, Go!', the sermon, itself. For instance, 'Lights Out!,' a Thanksgiving gratitude check, uses a flashlight, candles, matches and a gratitude list. Children focus on what they have to be grateful for, then, try to imagine what it would be like to be blind and have to prepare oneself for coming to church. They may even try acting it out with blindfolds. At the end of each lesson are appropriate verses from the bible to use either before or after the mini-sermon. The 52 lessons are organized into 'Special Events and Holiday, and Good Stuff in General'. A subject and scriptural index is included. 2003, Baker Books,
