Overview

This book is a collection of poetry written by D. P. Lyons, author of Sully Street. Some of the pieces found in this book reflect upon the life-changing events that surrounded his sudden vision loss in 2010. Through the highs and lows of those first few months, his new path led him into the direction of writing about his loss, his gains, and his whole life in verse. It represents a writer's passion with regard to childhood tales, personal relationships with the most important people in his life, his family, and those he loves who inspire him. Read about the magic of holidays, mother nature in all of her glory, and more in these writings taken from this author's personal experiences. These memories have occurred throughout his life, and they have constantly sang the song which appears on these pages. This collection of impressions captured in midair, along with the author's ever busy imagination, constantly swirls around reality, as he gives you his heart and soul.

About the Author

Deon Lyons lives in the central Maine town of Clinton along with his wife of thirty years. Deon worked for the past twenty five years as a Regional Sales Rep, until June of 2010 when he unexpectedly lost his vision due to lingering complications from his battle with cancer as an infant. He has been involved in a vocational rehabilitation program, and is also continuing to learn many forms of assistive technology skills in hopes of re-entering the working force.
Along with a lifelong passion for writing, Deon has developed many hobbies over the years, which include gardening, photography, multimedia, and continuously working on the 100 plus year old farm house that he and his lovely wife have lived in since 1986. He also enjoys playing any and all of his six guitars, and is a music lover of all types. More recently in the last several years his music tastes have evolved into a like for adult contemporary folk music, but he also is forever drawn back into the never forgettable array of sixties and seventies music.

With his rehabilitation and the wonderful world of assistive technology leading him back into using his pc once again, Deon has spent a lot of time these past few years exploring his love of writing. He has written hundreds of poems, short stories, a personal journal, several publications in local newspapers and assorted online outlets, as well as being a member of two writing groups that meet regularly. Along with the publication of his "Ready, Set, Poetry" compilation, he has also just recently self published a fiction piece, entitled "Sully Street", that he started in the fall of 2011.

With the incredible inspiration and support from family, friends, and members of the blind community, Deon has been able to overcome his vision loss, and continuously looks to the opportunities that lie ahead in the future to help mold him and guide him into the next chapter in his life.

His passions keep him motivated, but none of these compare to his passion and love of family, which has always been, and will forever continue to be the true driving force in his life.
