Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jackie Fulton
After watching their first rousing game of Bugs and Butterflies (the Silverlake Fairy School sport of choice) Lila and her friends cannot wait to begin training for the flying test. Lila even secretly hopes that she can score high enough on the exam to try out for the team! Flying is a little scary at first and the test seems almost impossible but the fairies have plenty of time to practice and Lila feels confident she will succeed. That is until a nasty trick is played and Lila is caught breaking the rules by stern Mistress Pipit. Lila's hopes of taking the test at the same time as all of her fairy friends have flown out the window—unless she proves to Mrs. Pipit that she was framed. Lila knows that school bully Princess Bee Balm must be behind the whole thing but she will have to learn a new spell, in addition to all of her flying tricks to prove it! Lindsay offers a nice mix of mystery and magic to keep the reader engaged. However, the lengthy descriptions of flying acrobatics feel overly technical at times and may be an obstacle for younger readers. This is entry #3 in the "Silverlake Fairy School" series.
