Overview

For K-6 teachers and counselors, this unique resource provides over 100 ready-to-use lessons and illustrated activities to help children develop the self-esteem, sense of security, empathy, and skills necessary to be able to work out differences with others peacefully in any setting.

The lessons and activities are varied, designed to appeal to the multiple learning styles of any group of children, and are accompanied by complete teacher directions and suggestions for their integration into the existing curriculum, including hall and bulletin board display ideas to showcase student activities.

For easy use, all materials are printed in a convenient lay-flat binding that folds flat for photocopying of the scores of student handouts and activities included and are organized into the following four sections:

  • CONFLICT-RESOLUTION ACTIVITIES FOR EDUCATORS-To help the teacher model appropriate behaviors, Section 1 offers a quick refresher for the teacher's own self-esteem, anger management, and conflict-solving skills through 12 empowerment activities such as "My Anger Triggers, Traps, 'n Traumas," "Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone," and "What They Didn't Teach Me in School."
  • BUILDING THE GROUNDWORK FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION-Section 2 provides 29 activities to help students build their own positive identity and deal with inner-directed anger. You'll find activities like
  • "Balloosters" (giving and receiving peer compliments), "Call Me When You Need a Friend" (learning how to be a friend), and "Put Your Best Foot Forward" (upholding values when challenged).
  • CONFLICT-RESOLUTION ACTIVITIES FOR YOUR CLASSROOM-Section 3 gives you 69 activities to develop children's conflict-solving skills and reduce theiranger towards others. For example, you'll find activities such as "Roller Coaster Days" (handling our emotional ups and downs), "Smart Signals" (cooling down angry feelings), "Just Picture It!" (learning the steps of brainstorming), "Twisted Tales" (recognizing communication mix-ups), and a "TLC Poster" (tender loving care approach to solving conflicts).
  • CONFLICT-RESOLUTION ACTIVITIES FOR YOUR SCHOOL-Section 4 presents 19 activities, including those that alert students to bullies and what can be one to prevent bullying, such as "Bully Busters!" Poster and "Are You a Bully Buster?" You'll also find all the information you need to involve everyone in a school-sponsored Conflict-Resolution Celebration, including fun ideas, music, a drama presentation, and more, as well as additional ways to communicate positive news with "Good News Monthly Calendar" and "Our Home Conflict-Resolution Menu."
If you find yourself saying "I can only do so much!" about today's problems such as lack of respect, bullying, and insensitivity to violence, Ready-to-Use Conflict-Resolution Activities for Elementary Students can give you the practical help you need to make a real difference in the lives of your students and your classroom learning environment.
