Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Originally successful as a large format picture book, a few selections have been chosen for this board book edition. Among the featured rhymes are Humpty Dumpty, Pat-a Cake, Mary Had a Little lamb, and the concluding rhymes, Bedtime and Wee Willie Winkie. The latter undoubtedly is intended to help get little ones in the mood for a good night's sleep. The pictures have an old-fashioned look and they should amuse kids and their caregivers.
From Barnes & Noble
Though no one knows much about the "real" Mother Goose, generations of children have succumbed to the hypnotic charm of her delightful rhymes. This beautifully illustrated edition includes the familiar stories of "Little Bo-Peep," "Jack and Jill," "Humpty Dumpty," and "The Old Woman in the Shoe," as well as many less celebrated poems. Revisit the colorful landscape of childhood--an enchanting topsy-turvy world of sages, simpletons, and scalawags. And be sure to take a wee one with you...you'll be grateful for the company! 9" x 11". Color illustrations. Ages 2-5.

    Passing through generations

My family had this book when I was a child. I loved it and remembered it well. I bought a new copy to share with my new niece/nephew. A classic!

Some one said that the nook version has no words just pictures.

Some one said that the nook version has no words just pictures. It wont work correctly unless you have your theme set to day then it works beautifully. Wonderful book as long as you don't mind reading it in the day (white) theme setting. Maybe the publisher should take a look at this. I would give it five stars if it worked properly as it is I got pretty upset about wasting my money before I decided to try to mess with the settings and found the problem.

    For Every Child's Collection

This is the classic Mother Goose book; I don't know why anyone would buy a different version. I loved it as a child, my son loved it, and I plan on giving to my granddaughter on her second birthday this year. The collection of vintage nursery rhymes with their charming illustrations is a delight for all ages.

    Great for Teaching Kids

The after school enrichment program at my child's school asked to borrow my copy of this book. It never came home. The director asked if she could keep it. The children used it so much and it was well loved.

The classic pentameters of the poems and language make this book a must have for any library.

Can you remember all the rhymes you learned in the nursery? Nope

Can you remember all the rhymes you learned in the nursery? Nope, me neither. So if you want to pass on that bit of childhood to your child, you probably need a book to do it. Also, you can't write altered nursery rhymes without first recalling the original. So whatever your reason, it is good to have at least one copy of Mother Goose.
I am very partial to Kate Greenaway's illustrations; however, I could not find that version when I was book shopping for my baby. Fortunately, I found Wright's version and it works out even better since my baby turned out to be a boy. Wright's illustrations have strong lines and colors. So while I like Greenaway's pretty pastel illustrations, I think Thomas prefers Wright's darker one. Speaking of darker, Mother Goose on the cover is clearly a "wise woman", from her pointed hat right down to her striped stockings and buckle-clad shoes.
I would recommend any illustrated version of Mother Goose, as long as it is comprehensive and familiar to what you learned in your childhood.

    Love this book. Highly Recommended

This was and always has been my favorite book. I read this book to my children and now I am reading it to my grandchildren. They love it also. This is one of those classic books that never go out.

    Fun for kids

My 7 yr old daughter is doing a Fairy Tale curriculum in school, and loves it. This book was a great enhancement for her to learn more tales than could be shared at school. And as a second grader, she's having no trouble reading it to herself. It's a solid offering.

    Great gift for young children

I had a copy of this book when I was growing up. The Fairy Tales are some of the first reading I ever did and I loved having them read to me too. I bought it for sentimental purposes and to read to when I have children someday!

Growing up with The Real Mother Goose.

When I was a little girl my mother bought me this book. It was my very first favorite book. I had other books, but I always drew in them and rarely touched them. This one, however, I never touched a with a crayon or anything or the like because it was so special. Even though I had outgrown it by the time I was 10, I still continued to read from it. Unfortunately, I lost the book during a move. My sister and I read this book so much that it was falling apart by the time we lost it in the move!

I want every parent out there to know, that this book takes you on a journey with your child. It's an exciting and funny book with great pictures and is an easy read. The fact that they are rhymes makes it educational as well, since rhyming is taught early on in schools. Children can learn that rhyming can be creative and tell a story, also. I highly recommend this book to every mother and father out there with little ones. My sister just bought a copy for her little girl and I am here to do the same for my little ones (and perhaps a bit for myself!) haha. You seriously can not go wrong with this book!

    This Classic Collection is Comprehensive

I find that nursery rhymes are not read to children today the way they were read to us in the past. Without the background knowledge of something so basic many of our children start school at a disadvantage. I chose this book because of the illustrations and the number of rhymes included. On the minus side, I wish the paper had been of a better quality.

Great for teaching poetry to kids

I have an old copy of this book and it's what I used when I first began writing poetry years ago. When I read it to my son he thought I was reading song lyrics because they flow so nicely and rhyme. This is a true learning tool for any child but especially for those who wish to learn clever poetry.

    Wonderful Book

I had this book when I was a child (had green & white checkers then) and have given a copy to each of my 5 children, 10 grandchildren and as a gift at every baby shower I go to. The illustrations are beautiful and the book has a very lasting quality that will continue for generations. I hope that you continue to carry this wonderful book.

This is the only Mother Goose you'll ever need!

I had this book when I was a little child and my mother was so sad that she couldn't find it to give to me when I had my first baby. I was so suprised and ecstatic to find it by chance on Barnes and Noble! It's a must have for any babies library.
