I LOVE this book! I left Jamaica when I was 11 granted my Aunt has told me how to cook certain foods, but she past a few years ago and she was a great, great cook. I love Enid Donaldson cookbook. I went downstairs in search of my resume writing books and came across it stored away so I pulled it out and started cooking recipes from the book. It took me back to my Aunts food and I'm telling it's REALLY….REALLY GOOD! My husband even LOVES it!
As an ExPat of over 30 years, who still eats as if I were living in Jamaica, I was a little sceptical as to the way the recipes would read and how close to the purist version that I knew, Ms Donaldson would come. I have to say that it with a sigh of relief that they not only read well, but cooked up great also.
What I liked even better were the anecdotes that accompanied the various sections. My parents and I would read them and they would lead us into conversations about life in Jamaica back in their youth. It was as much fun to read, as it was to cook with.
Great job Enid!
The pictures, the easy to follow recipes, the "easy-flowing conversational" way it was written just all brings back beautiful memories of growing up in Jamaica. My grandma (Mama) would be proud to know that I can make all the Jamaican favorites, thanks to this Wonderful book. God Bless!!
What a great book about some of the most delicious food that ever came out of Jamaica. As a Jamaican this book is invalueable as a sort of reference and just to wander though when I think of home. Recipes are easy to understand and one of the best things about this wonderful book is that you can learn a bit about the history of the food as well. This book is a keeper and one that I NEVER loan to anyone.
