Overview

Reaper is the second book in the best selling teen series The Riser Saga.

Chelsan Derée thinks she's finally going to be able to live the normal, healthy life of a teenage girl who can control the dead. She thinks she's free of psychotic grandparents, serial killers and government assassins. But no such luck - a child named Elisha, who desperately needs Chelsan to rescue her from an I.Q. Farm, is disrupting Chelsan's dreams.

Chelsan has to help Elisha because she knows the harrows of I.Q. Farms: secret warehouses full of genius children used as lab rats and given Age-pro (a pill that freezes the aging process, making them children forever).

It's only been two months since Chelsan's first traumatic ordeal, but a whole new batch of torture has arisen, including constant fighting between her best friend Bill and her boyfriend Ryan, becoming allies with her worst enemy, and having to deal with her grandparents (which is saying a lot since they're always trying to kill her!).

But all of these things are going to seem pretty minor when Chelsan discovers a plot so horrifying, so terrifying, that it may destroy the world. She will have to learn more about her power to raise and control the dead so she can stop the evil.

    Amazing follow-up!

This is so worth the money! I would pay ten bucks for this. It is an amazing follow-up! Reaper has some big twists! I loved it so much, I read it in two days. If you really liked the first book, Riser, then you'll love this!

    Even Better Than Riser!!!

I was so excited to read this. While my tastes tend to run more literary, I am always up for a good supernatural thriller. While I'm not usually in the market for teen related faire, I am also a high school English teacher and always on the prowl for books my students can really enjoy. That's how I initially discovered the first book in this series, Riser (a must read!). And I was hooked almost immediately by the sheer creativity of Ms. Smith's world and her grasp of the teenage mind.

I was incredibly impressed by this second endeavor. Usually a second novel in a series pales in comparison to the first. Most authors have a hard time continuing to innovate with the same characters. Ms. Smith has no such problem. Her world has a wonderful depth and she has given herself a large pool to draw from when it comes to finding new adventures for Chelsan. I was actually more engrossed by this chapter of the story. The stakes were raised and it didn't feel forced or repetitive. The action was taught and I even found myself being drawn into the feud between the rivals for Chelsan's affections. There are surprises around every turn and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. My only regret is that I now have to wait yet again for the next book. I gave the last book 5 stars. I wish I could give this one more.
