REASON AND PASSION is the first of two volumes compiled in honor of Britain's best-known living psychoanalyst, Hanna Segal. One of the first European psychoanalysts to win the prestigious Sigourney Award for contributions to psychoanalysis, Segal's first two books on Melanie Klein are classic texts, and her substantial body of work embraces five books, a large number of published papers and public presentations. She is one of Britain's seminal contributors to the psychoanalytic perspective on psychosis, the theory of symbolism, aesthetics, literature and politics.

Here, a group of internationally renowned psychoanalysts reflect on numerous aspects of the theoretical and clinical work of Hanna Segal. The essays cover such topics as violence, expiation, anxiety, symbol-formation and creativity.
