I've just recently started buying the magazine, but I've been on reason.com for a while and I find the whole organization to be a great voice in the political arena. Regardless of your views, the Reason writers make good arguments in support of their points.

I decided to read articles at random.
First article was about how Global Warming is apparently a hoax. I am not convinced by its arguments in the least, and after the rest of my experience, I'm not motivated to check its facts.
The second article was about how the Department of Education, among many other agencies, should be eliminated. No numbers are cited, no cost savings estimates, no real explanation on how exactly they expected a patchwork of state DoE's to make an education system that competes with every other nation in the world, nor how they expect states to react when all the funding that the DoE gives them for various education initiatives just poofs.
None of that. Just an assertion that it'd be a good idea, states would be fine because they have their own DoE's, and..well, that's it.
Really, really happy I didn't pay for this.

If you have an open mind, this magazine is worth a look. I've just started reading and so far it seems to fit it's description. I believe it is making a principled case for liberty and individual choice. Some people get angry and call that right-wing. If the authors didn't provide good references to back up their points, you could probably make that case. Personally, I think it's speaking directly to the ideas behind our basic freedoms and not to any big party political agenda. That being said, I just started reading so if my opinion changes, I will make sure to update this review.

Reason??? There is no reason to this magazine. Not conservative or liberal unbiased??? Arrrghhh! The mag is fanatically right-wing? I read seven article of the current issue and all seven were unashamedly ultra-right wing fanatical.
I thought that I had found a truly unbiased un-liberal un-conservative...just straight-forward news/information paper. I hope i find it...this is not it.

If you still believe in the two-party system, get ready for a shock. This magazine is not trying to be non-partisan, it's anti-partisan. Ultra-right-wing accusations do not apply when socially liberal.

Hard to believe the publishers of this magazine have the nerve to call it reason.

The only way to understand what the right course of action is for our society is to really drill down to the core philosophical principles that should be followed. If freedom and peace are the highest goals of your philosophy, then Reason shows the necessary path to achieving both in the real world. Unfortunately it is easy to lose one's way in the false dichotomy of Red vs. Blue, and Reason does a fantastic job of eviscerating the brickbats, red herrings, and nonsense of both sides while casting a light on the way to true peace, prosperity, and freedom.

I love this magazine. I have always thought the goverment should but of our lives, and not try to fix everything. The articles in this rag make me think that there is hope for liberty after all. I have no clue how one of the reviewers thought this was a right wing thing.

Reason Magazine is what it says: REASON! Thought provoking articles and items that go "outside the box" of "Conservative vs. Liberal" or Republican vs. Democrat.
It is overall "Small l" libertarian and treats the reader as intelligent and able to reason out any subject in their own mind. Heavy topics of all aspects of government policy are presented in a way anybody can understand. Often with a humorous edge that honestly makes it fun to read about politics.
Articles are well thought out and sources documented. What I found most refreshing is that the magazine is humble and honest about things. If they make a mistake they are quick to make it right. It's a refreshing thing in a world made up for the most of arrogant "political journalists" who tell you "what to think" instead of trusting the reader to weight the evidence provided.

Many better reads exist, e.g., The Week or Newsweek.

If you're looking for Reason, this isn't the magazine for you. It's incredibly liberal with nothing to balance it out.

...to Irrationality. This mag gets more and more to the extreme right under the guise of libertarianism. It's distressing to say the least.

Reason magazine is one of the best ways to stretch your brain that I can think of. And if you want to enjoy engaging in intellegent discourse with your kids of 15 plus, this is a GREAT resource. The writings and the topics and questions this nmagazine rsaises removes the barrier of age entirely. It is REASON--just plain common sense smarts
