Overview

Former cobalt addict and AKM drug counselor, Io is a male vampire known as much for his abrasive personality as for his playboy lifestyle. Life on the edge suits him, and he lives full throttle, making his own rules, damn the consequences. What he wants, he takes, and what he wants now is Miriam. If only he can find a way to see her again without getting himself killed, but her father stands in the way.

Miriam is the daughter of the king. Strong-willed and defiant, she feels like a prisoner in her own home and struggles to break free from under her father’s oppressive hold. The king’s law surrounding Miriam is explicitly clear: No one touches her. Period. It's a sentence that's left Miriam to suffer from loneliness and resentment.

In a fit of rebellion, Miriam has turned to cobalt to find relief and freedom, but now she’s a prisoner to addiction as much as to her father’s strict control. What's more, she can’t get sexy Io, who gently tended to her at the AKM facility as she recovered from her first overdose, off her mind. Will she ever see him again?

When Miriam overdoses a second time, she and Io are thrust back together, and all bets are off. Seeing each other was the one thing both wanted, and not even the king’s laws and threats of punishment will be enough to defuse their rebellious obsession with one another now that they’ve found each other again, even if the consequences are death.

I really really liked this book! 4.5 stars for me! Oh Io, Io, Io

I really really liked this book! 4.5 stars for me!
Oh Io, Io, Io... Poor Io. Will this bad boy ever learn? He screws up his relationship with his best friend when he finds out he's gay. And he actually takes a mate! The Kings' daughter no less! Will this rebel pay for his sins or live to tell about it? I love how Io progresses and starts to see the error of his ways. What he always thought to be the most disgusting thing ever,he starts to realize it really doesn't matter if his best friend is gay, as long as he's happy. His story had me laughing at times and feeling bad for him at others. I enjoyed reading it.

Best Vampires since the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

I love this series. Donya Lynne has created a different kind of world of vampires. Some can walk in the light, some can read minds, some are older than Jesus. All of them are gorgeous. They also have a king. He has a daughter who is tired of being cosseted. As in all good books there are antagonists. These guys aren't pasty white, they're blue. Their species, known as dreck, is a distant cousin to vampire. They are a lower form of vampire and many are drug dealers. So the princess looks for drugs to break away from the monotony of being a royal. Look out overdose, here comes All the Kings Men to save the princess. This series is just getting better and better.

    more from this reviewer

GREAT SERIES:  REVIEW:  I am a big fan of Donya Lynne¿s AKM (All

GREAT SERIES:  REVIEW:  I am a big fan of Donya Lynne’s AKM (All The King’s Men) series and Io’s storyline is both heartbreaking and fascinating.  Donya has pulled no punches as Io fights for the mate who is fighting a war of her own.  Between her father’s iron rule and her addiction to cobalt, Io must make Miriam face the hard facts as it pertains to her life and their future.  But Io’s vampire has mated with the one woman who comes with enough family baggage to tip the scales in no ones favor.
Donya involves all of the AKM vampires and half-breeds in Rebel Obsession-from their fight to keep Io’s mating a secret to their defense of a friend when the vampire King sentences one of their own to death- the AKM team members are willing to sacrifice for the sake of friendship and love.
As the story develops you can see that there is a potential for several more storylines.  Trace is in need of some major therapy and he may just have found the very woman who can control the beast who is only too willing to come out and play.  And to complicate matters, someone long thought dead will re-enter the vampire’s lives and change the history for both family and friends.
REBEL OBSESSION reveals some major plot twists and developments that can only be answered in future storylines.  Donya has grabbed my proverbial paranormal junkie side and keeps my addiction at an all time high (pun intended).  I am looking forward to the next instalment in the AKM and I hope I do not have to wait too long.

    Io is a hit!

Io is my least favorite character in this series, not because he treated woman so callously but because he was a lousy homophobic friend. By the end of the book, I liked him much better than I originally did. He realized all of his past mistakes and rectified them, so he gained brownie points in my book. Miri's character was strong and defiant to the end. She did now bow to anyone, even though she did have a few weaknesses but I think that will endear her to readers all the more. This book was action packed, very intense on the edge of your seat action and it introduced a bunch of new characters, not to mention brought in many of the old characters. Can't wait to read the next book in this amazingly HOT series!!!

    Can you rebel against destiny?

Miriam uses drugs to escape her life. While life as a princess may seem glamorous, she is really a prisoner in her own home, and her father, King Bain, refuses to admit she has an addiction problem. Io met Miriam the first time she overdosed and he helped her by brushing her hair. However, touching, or even looking, at the royal daughter is a punishable offense. When Miriam overdoses again her friend contacts Io, who decides to risk it all to get her clean. His life doesn't mean anything if she can't get better, especially with the crazy attraction he feels towards her. But the Drecks are cooking up more than just drugs in their labs and, with the help of Trace, Io may need to save Miriam and more.

The series is finally on its way to being a true series! You must read the previous books before this one, and you will enjoy them. The characters are so enthralling that I cried when I reached the ending. The story line is engrossing and has a detailed plot with action and very good romance.

The only complaint I have is that the author showed her hand on the next 2-3 books a little too soon. Series books should imply the next book, but I shouldn't be able to guess no more than 1 full plot and I can consider three solid ways to go. I would enjoy all three it's not a big deal, and certainly a huge improvement over the recommdations in the reviews I posted regarding the first two books. And no, I had not read this when writing those reviews. Can't wait for the next book!
