Overview

From the author of the bestsellers Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It and Live Your Truth comes Rebirth, an inspiring novel about the magic that happens when you learn to follow your heart.

After the death of his estranged father, Amit takes his parent's ashes to the Ganges to fulfill a deathbed promise. Instead of returning home, he wanders, his pain and grief leaving him confused about his future. Almost broke, unsure about his direction in life, and running from memories, he is led by fate to the Camino de Santiago, an ancient 550-mile pilgrimage route across northern Spain.

Amit meets a variety of travelers on his journey. Some are lost and searching for answers. Others are doing their best to leave the past behind. And there are a few who walk to celebrate life. All have stories and lessons to share.

Once a reluctant pilgrim, Amit realizes he cannot stop until he completes the journey. As a traveler tells him, "Once you start walking the Camino, the Camino becomes a part of you." With each step Amit is challenged to confront his fear of following in the footsteps of his father, the loss of a woman he may love after all, and the reality of an uncertain future.

His month-long pilgrimage forces Amit to face life's big questions, and causes him to grow and embrace a new sense of purpose and being.

Based on the author's experience of walking the legendary Camino de Santiago, and told in the tradition of Paulo Coelho and Mitch Albom, Rebirth is a beautiful fable about forgiveness, synchronicity, and the unexpected adventures that reveal who we are.

Walking the Camino de Santiago, the ancient pilgrimage route from France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, Amit feels lost. He's not sure how long he'll spend hiking, why he's really there, or what he'll do back in the States. His relationships are in disarray, too; his girlfriend may have moved on and his estranged alcoholic father has just died. Lonely and sad, Amit finds that many on the trail are in similar situations, but they prop one another up and share solace, wisdom, and lots of wine, with the camaraderie and kindness creating a new Amit by the end of the tale. While the writing is sometimes pedestrian and a main character who is English speaks in a way that is rarely heard outside of Buckingham Palace, Ravikant offers the odd shard of wisdom that will stay with readers. VERDICT Not an essential purchase, but nonfiction author Ravikant's (Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It; Live Your Truth) story of spiritual seeking while hiking will resonate with those who enjoyed Cheryl Strayed's Wild. Readers who are after a glimpse of the Camino—the details seem plucked from the ancient route—should also try David Downie's Paris to the Pyrenees.—Henrietta Verma, National Information Standards Organization, Baltimore

Kamal Ravikant has created absolute magic with his book Rebirth. Ravikant has that rare ability to weave life truths into a moving story that will have you thinking long after you close the book. The story follows Amit as he goes on a pilgrimage across the Camino de Santiago in search of meaning and answers after the death of his father. Along his path he meets a number of other pilgrims, all fighting their own demons, who add perspective and clarity to Amit’s life. Ravikant has an easy flow and a beauty to his storytelling which seems to allow Amit’s journey to unfold almost effortlessly. Told in 1st person, it often feels like sitting across from an old friend who’s telling you an incredibly intimate story. I read the entire book in two days, and much like The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Rebirth is one of those books that I know I will read many times and find new meanings every time I crack open the pages. This is an amazingly beautiful book that I guarantee you will want to tell everyone about

What an unbelievable way to start 2017. Rebirth is a beautifully written novel. Each sentence is simple, yet elegant. There is no showing off, nothing that serves the author's ego. Just wonderfully crafted sentences that take the reader across Spain by way of the Camino de Santiago. An ancient pilgrimage completed by millions of people over the course of almost a thousand years. I felt as though I was walking with Amit through every step, sharing in every conversation he has with the other pilgrims he meets. Rebirth is not just about the physical journey, but about the mental journey I think we all need to take. This is a book about hitting bottom, this is a book about forgiveness - and what a gift to ourselves each can be if we open our hearts to them. Rebirth is a magical book that I look forward to rereading in the years to come.

"Rebirth" is one of those rare books that I've read that melt away, leaving me in the middle of a beautiful story that feels like a memory when I'm done. Although I loved Kamal Ravikant's previous two books, "Love Yourself Like YOur Life Depends on It," and "Live Your Truth," his latest book, "Rebirth," is magical. If you've ever been in a place in your life where you looked up and didn't quite know how you got somewhere or where you were going, this is the perfect book. In "Rebirth," the main character, Amit, suffers the loss of his father and brings his remains back to India. Instead of going back to his normal life, he walks the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain, unaware that a pilgrimage was just what he needed. I think, in some fashion, a pilgrimage is what we all need. We need some way to dig deeper--to discover and become our better selves. . This book helped me do that--I felt I was walking the Camino with each pilgrim and joining in the reflection, conversation, and the sacred experience of the journey. Whether you're doing some soul searching or enjoy travel and spiritual fiction, you will be all the better for reading Kamal Ravikant's Rebirth. This is a book to read more than once and ponder the deeper lessons.
