Overview

Enter Shadow Falls: After Dark and meet a vampire named Della, who’s about to discover what her own story is meant to be. . . .

Della had the perfect life—the family, a boyfriend, and a bright future—until she was turned, and abandoned by everyone she loves. She takes refuge at Shadow Falls, a camp for teens with paranormal powers. It’s where she and her best friends, Kylie and Miranda, heal their heartbreak with laughter, and where Della is training to be a paranormal investigator—and she refuses to be distracted. That means there’s no time for romance with Steve, a gorgeous shapeshifter whose kisses melt her heart.

When a new vampire named Chase shows up at camp, Della’s world is thrown into even more chaos. Arrogant and annoyingly sexy, Chase is a mystery . . . and the only mystery Della likes is one she can solve. She can’t solve Chase, at least not while she’s dealing with ghostly hauntings, vampire gangs and a web of family secrets. Can she prove herself as an investigator and keep her life—and her heart—intact? From bestselling author C. C. Hunter comes Reborn, the first book in a new series set once more in the world of Shadow Falls.

VOYA, August 2014 (Vol. 37, No. 3) - Matthew Weaver
Della Tsang is on the outs with her mother and father after dying and turning into a vampire. Fortunately, she attends Shadow Falls, a camp full of similarly paranormal people. But hot new vampire Chase is getting on her nerves. Best friends Kylie and Miranda think kissing Chase would solve Della’s problems, especially after Della’s secret shape-shifter boyfriend, Steve, kisses another girl. Della is also busy training to become an investigator. Not only is there a grisly murder to solve, but she also comes across a picture of her father as a young boy with a twin. Is her presumed-dead uncle actually a vampire? Could that be why her father has written her out of his life and a cousin has vanished? And just why is Chase hanging around? Part of Hunter’s continuing Shadow Falls series, Reborn is easy enough for a new reader to get the basic gist of the surrounding environment. Hunter easily walks the line between teen drama and fantasy and demonstrates a real flair for comedy. The sequence in which Della mistakes an actual hawk for Steve is particularly amusing. The love triangle is compelling and mysteries promising, but the story’s real strength comes as Della navigates tensions with her parents and seeks comfort from her campmates. In a tale of superpowered teenagers, it is the honest, ordinary moments between friends and family that make this a series worth reading. Reviewer: Matthew Weaver; Ages 15 to 18.
Kirkus Reviews
2014-05-04
Hunter (Chosen at Nightfall, 2013, etc.) returns to the supernatural school/camp Shadow Falls, switching protagonist from Kylie to Della—there's a love triangle, naturally.Della's efforts to conceal her vampire status have led her family to suspect her of drug use, alienating her from their esteem and affections. An offhand remark leads Della toward a family mystery and a missing uncle (possibly a fellow vampire). Back at Shadow Falls, Della has run-ins with a (hot, mysterious) new vampire, Chase, who competes with Steve, the sexy shape-shifter, for her affections. When Della catches the scent of a killer vampire after a double homicide, she begs the Fallen Research Unit (sort of a supernatural FBI) agent who runs the camp to work the case—it is her dream to work for the FRU. Complicating things, Chase is investigating too. Additional mysteries involve a ghost, Della's cousin and Della's health problems (a strange cold that causes her vampire senses to wax and wane—usually in ways that help the mystery plots). The many plotlines don't overwhelm as they're all predictable, and many eventually consolidate. Although the worldbuilding assumes readers are familiar with Hunter's earlier novels, snatches of narration sometimes repeat themselves. The strongest elements are the friendship among Della, Kylie and Miranda and their hilarious (and sometimes-naughty) girl-talk sessions. This is great for readers wanting to return to Shadow Falls, but it won't attract new audience members. (Paranormal romance. 14 & up)

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Another gem from C.C. Hunter!  Della is and will continue to be a fantastically complex character.  I'm looking forward to seeing what she accomplishes in the future.  At the heart of the story Ms. Hunter writes about strong, confident women. They make mistakes of course, but who doesn't. How you deal with those mistakes is what defines you.  The protective/overprotective males in the story do need to give it a rest, they might be physically stronger for the most part, but the women can handle their own.  Della has some great new abilities coming her way, that I can't wait to find out about.

The obligatory love triangle, while good for juicing up the story line, gets a bit tedious the more you read it.  Honestly the love triangle doesn't interest me as much as Della kicking butt.  It doesn't detract from the story though, so no real complaints there.  Definitely worth the read!

I'm a mom, yes, I'm a mom and I used my power of "persuasion" to read this book before my daughter :-) Okay, I bribed her with ice cream!

Right away, I was pulled into the suspense and paranormal world of Shadow Falls. It begins with Della at home on a mandatory parent weekend when she learns that her uncle could be a vampire. She returns to Shadow Falls after another disappointing time with her parents with a mission: find her uncle, stay away from the new vamp (i.e. panty perv), and become the best FRU agent.

Like I stated above, I'm not done, but I can tell you the story has already grabbed me with its fast yet intense pace, a strong heroine, and a book full of supernatural characters.

I can't wait to finish this book!

Della Tsang is the definition of tough and sassy. Even though vampires are known for their unyielding attitudes, Della is the poster child for hiding a tender heart behind a steel exterior.
She's determined to prove herself to Burnett and earn a spot working for the FRU (Fallen Research Unit), the FBI of the supernatural world. When a young couple is found murdered a few miles from camp, Della gets her chance to prove her worth. This time nothing will distract her - not Steve, the hunky shape-shifter who caught her eye, and definitely not Chase, the mysterious new vampire at Shadow Falls.
While working hard to solve the case (and keep two gorgeous guys at bay), Della discovers her father is keeping secrets that can change her entire world. Torn between wanting a loving family unit and honoring her parents wishes to leave the past alone, Della must make a choice that not only impacts everyone she cares about but also puts her own life on the line.
REBORN is the first full-length novel in C.C. Hunter's Shadow Falls: After Dark series. The regular cast of characters from Shadow Falls return, adding depth and humor to this new series and giving fans a chance to catch up with old friends. The majority of the story, though, is focused on Della and the challenges she faces embracing her future as a vampire while letting go of all things tied to her once perfect life as a human. Hunter does a wonderful job balancing Della's inner-turmoil with plenty of mystery, suspense and fast-paced action. Readers will be glad the Shadow Falls series back with REBORN.

Great addition to Shadow Falls Series!

C.C. Hunter has. Out done herself once again! I love reading the Shadow Falls series! In Reborn....the story evolves around the hard headed Vampire (Della). This story delves into Della life, and of course it includes all your favorite characters: Kylie, Miranda, Holiday, Burnett, Steve and a new comer (Chase- a sexy Vampire with attitude).

Della has to deal with a lot of issues throughtout the story. She has dissapointed her parents, let her cousin Chan down, She found out that she has an uncle, a couple is killed by a Vampire; but who? A new Vampire has joined the camp (a dark mysterious vampire, and Della feels like she knows him; but ca 't place where she met him). Steve and her have a big fight, something happens to Holiday; and she must step up to the bat, Her powers are wonky, and something is happening to her. Really ....how much can one Vamp handle? There are several occasions where Della must "put onher big girl panties". I truly admire all the strength she shows in this book. Oh! I forgot to mention.....if all that wasn't enough....Della wants to join the FRU, which means she must show Burnett what she is made of.

Do you think Della can handle all that? Read the book....I promise you won't be dissapointed! I honestly Loved it!

I can't wait until the next book comes out.....I am waiting on pins and needles.

Reborn by C.C. Hunter is part of the Shadow Falls: After Dark series and I have to say that it is phenomenal. I absolutely love the plot and all the things mixed in. Shadow Falls the original series is one of my favorite YA series about a Boarding type of school and this spinoff is not just as good but even better.

I loved the plot. There are a few different mysteries that really keep the story moving. I like that some of our favorite characters still play a big part in the goings on. Miranda and Kylie are still strong characters so it really feels like you are just stepping into Della’s shoes. I really like how things come together and by the end of the first book some things are solved but there are still plenty of questions for Eternal.

Della was kick butt character in the Shadow Falls series, so I was pretty excited for her to have her own series. Della just gets better because now we are instead her head. We see where her attitude comes from and the different things she’s feeling. I love her. She is fantastic character because I felt like it was so easy to bond with. I loved how she develops as things happen to her, she admits to things she’s confused about. I like that she stays steady and holds to things she believes in. Just such a well rounded character.

As far as the romance goes. For the first half of the book, even though Chase is around he’s really not in your face or anything. This is one of those complicated love triangles where I don’t dislike anyone. I love Steve for Della because he is so steady and sweet. He doesn’t let her shake him off and he keeps trying. I don’t have any problems with Chase (not like the fuming hate I had for Derrek in the first series). It’s like my loyalty is to Steve because I read their novella first and he has been around longer. I don’t know. Like I said I don’t hate Chase…...Oh it’s so complicated!!!!!

So I loved the book and I’m a Della super fan. Like I said earlier this is one of my favorite YA series about a boarding school.

This is a really good book and I'll tell you why. It's because CC Hunter is an amazing author. Her Shadow Falls series is so original. Shadow Falls After Dark is from Della's point of view, but still has the previous characters in it. I would recommend reading the Shadow Falls series from Kylie's point of view first, starting with Born at Midnight. Della is fun character and a kick ass vampire with a bad attitude, but there are super hot guys who are attracted to her.  Also, if you are into love triangles, you will definitely love Shadow Falls.

I want to start off by saying how much I love all of C.C. Hunter

I want to start off by saying how much I love all of C.C. Hunter’s books. Ever since the first book I read of hers (Born at Midnight), I have been hooked. I devoured every book so far and can’t wait for Eternal (Shadow Falls: After Dark Book #2).
Reborn is the first novel in Shadow Falls: After Dark. Shadow Falls: After dark follows Della, the best friend of Kylie Galen (the main protagonist in Shadow Falls Series). Shadow Falls is a camp for paranormal teenagers (Vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, faes). All the main characters from Shadow Falls Series is still in the books (Kylie, Miranda, Derek, Lucas).
Della is a vampire whose only relative knows the truth about her has somehow disappeared, causing Della to dives further into her family’s heritage and tries to find more relatives that may be vampire. A mysterious vampire named Chase shows up at Shadow Falls and vies for her attention. Steve, a shapeshifter, has been trying for a long time to gain Della’s trust and claim her as his girlfriend. But when Della’s life is at risk and the only way to save her may destroy Steve’s chances with her, he still determinedly tries to save her, even if it means losing her. But as always, C.C. Hunter finds a way to keep the love triangle going and Della still has feelings for Steve. (Even if she tries to deny them.)
I can’t wait for Eternal, the second book in the Shadow Falls: After Dark Series.
As usual, C.C. Hunter rocked this book and I am still counting down the days until Eternal. (12 days!)

    Perfect.

Okay, beautifully written and I cherish this book. Della is awesome and I enjoyed this. A lot. (SPOILER!: Miranda strikes again! Kangaroos!) The best part is, CC brings in a new character that is a mystery and to be honest, I think everyone has a crush on the taken guys. Everyone. We love the characters, the writing, and overall, CC herself. No one will be able to put this down until they've finished.

The Shadow Falls gang is back and better than ever. This time, readers get to experience the mysteries and adventures through Della Tsang's eyes. Della is training to become an agent for the FRU, the law enforcement of the paranormal world. She's also dealing with family issues and a pesky cold that just will not go away. And when a cocky new vampire shows up at the camp, it sets everything spinning.

I am so beyond excited that C.C. Hunter has continued with the Shadow Falls story. The end of Kylie's adventures in the original Shadow Falls novels was bittersweet for me. Hunter does not disappoint loyal fans with this continuation. The best part? New readers don't have to read the original series to pick it up - it can easily stand alone. The plot was thrilling, intriguing, and kept this reader up long into the night. I just had to know what happened next! I cannot wait for the next installment.

KI am a new reader to C.C. Hunter - Reborn is my first read actually .... Gotta admit I loved every minute and am so pumped there"s plenty more to keep me entertained. I also love and appreciate how she navigates thru some interesting issues like sexism in the workplace,. I especially appreciate how much she balances the two sides of the modern women. Being strong, capable and speaking your mind, or choosing to have children doesn't make you weak, unreliable, or encapable of still being gentle with real women's needs. I just might need a pair of Smurf pajamas to finish the rest!!! Thank you CC Hunter for some great entertainment!l
