Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
If you have not seen the movie Ratatouille or would like to read just the story, then this chapter books fits the bill. Remy longs to be a cook and no longer suffers the indignities of being a rat that can smell poison to protect the pack when they eat scraps. To him it is demeaning and boring. Finally he gets his chance and together with Linguini, a boy whose role at the restaurant is cleaning up, they team up to make some of the best food in Paris. The young boy even catches the eye of Colette who teaches him a few things about cooking, but they too have their problems. Meanwhile Remy and Linguini have their ups and downs and even a falling out, but in the end everyone ends up happy and cooking their little hearts out. I will not spoil the surprise about Linguini's parentage or the black heartedness of Skinner, but suffice it to say that good does triumph over evil. Black-and-white spot and full-page illustrations break up the text. Part of the "Stepping Stones" series of chapter books. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
