... I love Stephanie Laurens' books but I think she had writer's block (hey, it happens) and a deadline to meet. I really don't care for Loretta much, she just isn't all that interesting. I was so looking forward to Rafe's book when I began the series because he was originally written as 19th century James Dean, all Alpha male with an attitude. Instead, he's turned into a mediocre character, who is a little whiny, actually. I find him a bit annoying. I haven't finished the book yet but I'm wondering if I'm ever going to get to an interesting part or if they are just going to meander down random rivers for 350 pages. In fact, I would root for the antagonist (the cultists) if they would ever show up but sadly at page 175 there is still no sign of them. I can only hope this gets better but I doubt it. Truly if this had been my first Stephanie Laurens book, it would have been my last.

I liked the other three Black Cobra stories with its fast pace of the characters to get to safety from the Black Cobra's minions. I thought this story would be the same way, but about three quarters of the book is mixed with Rafe, Loretta, and Lady Congreve. Nothing about the Black Cobra until near the end of the story. The epilogue has more story than the story itself. I realize the series in intermingled with each other from different points of view. However, I was a little disappointed with this story.

This is the fourth and last book in the Black Cobra series. I recommend that they be read in order if possible. The Reckless Bride is probably the tamest of the four. Each of the books tells of the journey of one of the soldiers tasked with traveling from India to England carrying important evidence needed to stop the Black Cobra cult. Rafe (known as Reckless) has less interference on his journey than the other three, but it is still an exciting story.

I have been a Stephanie Laurens devotee for more years than I can even put a number to; I loved reading this series, it was really exciting at times. But this book, the conclusion to the series, was the worst of the four books. I was expecting the thrills and chills to reach a fever pitch in the last book, but - what a bummer - I only felt mildly interested (not thrilled) and remained decidedly room temperature (not chilled). It was well-written and had pretty hot love scenes, as is always the case w/ SL. Still, I felt a little underwhelmed by the book. It just didn't live up to what I've come to expect from SL.

The Reckless Bride gets mixed reactions from me. The attraction and love story between Rafe and Loretta was excellent. Loretta has just the right amount of spice and backbone , I have come to expect in Ms. Laurens heroines. However, the plot was set up that Rafe came across as less intelligent than his counterparts. The series of attacks that were visited upon the group earlier in the book should have been questioned much sooner. The fact that he was determined to successfully finish his mission gave the character redemption. As always the author paints a wonderfully descriptive book with her use of secondary characters. These are the things that kept me interested in the story. I loved the conclusion of the book. Was it just me or did no one else suspect who was the head of the villainous Cobra?

This book lacked oomph. I expected more from the last installment of a successful series. The previous books provided better chemistry between their romantic leads and had better buildup in suspense.

I am a big fan of Stephanie Laurens! Her stories are rich with personalities, and details so vivid you can feel them, and in that respect I enjoyed final book. I am however a little disappointed. The ending was very fitting of the story line. Even though it was anti-climactic. I guess I was looking for more of the action, or "Running the guantlet" of cuiltests. But that never happened. There was little mention of the final 2 Bastion Club members who were suposed to be helping, and no mention of the wives of these 2 members who are very strong and resourceful ladies. All in all I enjoyed the books. I look forward to her next stories and will read everyone of them as they come out!

I am a huge Stephanie Laurens fan, but not so for this book. The story was drawn out way too long and didn't keep my attention like the others in this series. If you read the prior three you do have to read this to get to the end of the of the Black Colbra Saga......good luck... you can skip most of the middle of the book and still figure out the entire plot.

Given this was the last book, I expected more out of it. I was disappointed in "Reckless" Rafe, as he wasn't, and his character felt flat and one-dimensional. The three previos books built Rafe to almost epic proportions, then didn't deliver. I thought there would be more of the Black Cobra cultists, but there were few if any. Read it once to finish the series, but that's it.

This book is just one more installment in the Black Cobra Series that is so worth reading I could not put it down. I have loved everyone of her books and can't wait for the next one to come out.
