    A reviewer

A superb blend of salsa and funk, this recording is the first part of a two CD set. It was not just J. Cash who would go to the penitentiaries to provide entertainment to the people in there. Palmieri also went there and gave a recital suitable for both the hispanic and afroamerican population, usually majoritarian in the US jails. The set excludes, perhaps to avoid criticism of irony and mordacity, the "La Libertad/Logico" song ""Freedom/Logical"", which would have sounded great. The songs, specially the Pa' La Ocha and Muñeca (Alternative Version) are remarkable for their solid rythm and the vocals of Ismael Quintana. The final set, Azúcar/Sugar, mixes the funk and salsa styles in a superb blend. The musicians include Eddie's brother, Charlie, also a great keyboardist. Unfortunately, the trombone is not played by master Barry Rodgers, but the musicians here are outstanding. In between, you will find some poetry by 'street troubadours', reminding the style of The Last Poets. An eccentric touch of lyrism for a, somehow, protest album. Never preachy, however. And the prisioners celebrate the show, acclaiming with energy.
