About the Author

Archibald Henry Sayce (1845–1933) was a pioneering British Assyriologist, linguist, and historian of the ancient Near East. A Fellow of Queen's College, Oxford, and later Professor of Assyriology at the University of Oxford, Sayce was instrumental in advancing the study of cuneiform and ancient Semitic languages during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His scholarly work helped lay the foundations for modern Assyriology and Egyptology.

Sayce authored numerous influential publications, including Records of the Past, a multi-volume series of English translations of ancient inscriptions and texts from Egypt and Western Asia. His ability to make complex ancient documents accessible to a wider audience earned him respect both within academic circles and among general readers. Through his meticulous translations and interpretations, Sayce played a crucial role in bringing the voices of the ancient world into the modern era.
