Jason Wright has encapsulated all of the emotions that we felt during that time. His descriptive writing is unparalleled, he picks up on small things, a child's broken toy, a picture frame showing a happy mother and her newborn baby. These are powerful images.

Luke's journey is one that occurs on two levels, on the outside it is one of search and rescue, on the inside it is one of self discovery and reconciliation with his past.

There is also a very unique twist at the end of the book, actually two twists, these are unexpected and a masterful use of the plot.

Recovering Charles is an evocative and emotional read, and even though a work of fiction, I can guarantee that you will have a lump in your throat when you finish reading it. This book deserves to be on the New York Times best seller list, it certainly is one that I will remember for a very long time. As a reviewer I rarely have the luxury of time to read a book twice, I will make time for Recovering Charles.

    Fiction that matters

    I'm not typically a fan of fiction but love history/true life stories and I felt like that's what I was reading. Katrina and New Orleans were obviously well researched and the story of redemption and reconnecting with relationships that matter was so compelling. This was a book that was easy to get into and stayed with me. Even better than Wright's other books.

    Compelling Read

    ¿Every life has a second verse¿ is the theme reiterated throughout Jason Wright¿s latest novel, Recovering Charles. Luke Millward receives a phone call that turns his normal life upside down. On the heels of Hurricane Katrina, Luke is told that his father is missing in New Orleans. Estranged from his father for many years, Luke decides to make the journey and join in the search. The search for his father turns out to be a discovery of the soul¿both past the present for Luke.

    This novel was a wonderful, compelling read. I was caught up in the plight of the main character as he was swept into the devastation of Hurricane Katrina and started to put together bits of his past together as he tried to find his father. A great story that is universal in appeal¿for anyone who believes in a second verse.

    He's Done It Again!

    He's done it again! Wright's latest novel, Recovering Charles, is most engaging. I was engrossed in the story right from the first sentence. Wright's character development and plot twists combine for great story telling. I would recommend this work to anyone looking for a great read!

    Another Great Read from Jason Wright!

    This should be another best seller!! Based in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, these characters will stay with you long after you've finished the book. The song written in this book is constantly playing on my computer at home and as I sing along I look back at where I've been, where I'll be in coming years, where my relationships with my family and friends stand, and what my second verse to my life song will be!! I anxiously look forward to the next one from Jason Wright!

    enjoyable heartwarming read

    I enjoyed this story. Had a great meaning. loved the message of forgiveness and that no matter the hardship shared in any relationship its worth resolving for your inner peace.. I would recommend this for any father and son who are on the edge with eachother, who struggle with stubborness, who just will not let past hurts leave..when it comes right down to it..you have many chances, its what you do with those chances that make the difference..Addiction needs to be understood, you can heal from it..

    The heartwarming story of a young man finding himself while searching for his estranged father in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina written in Wright's enthralling style that just won't let you put the book down until you know what happens next

    This book captures you from page one. A successful award winning photographer travels to New Orleans to try to find his father in the aftermath of Katrina. This is a father that he has been estranged from for many years and and isn't even sure why he is going on this journey but decides to make the trip anyway. He sees the destruction through his photographer's eyes and is overwhelmed by what he sees. It is so much more than what he expected from the reports on the TV and radio. As he meets his father's fiancee' and friends who seem to know a completely diferent man than he does, his journey becomes more confusing and more desperate. Through many twists and turns, this emotional journey ends, not as one would expect with the photographer finding his father and them making amends but with him having found himself and the real essence of his father in the music of New Orleans.

    Family Struggles

    This is a story that kept me thinking about my family, my country, and my choices. I have avoided anything Katrina until reading this book. We all have hurts in our life that can sometimes overcome us. Recovering Charles is a story that reminded me that the greatest catastrophes, whether from the hurricanes of nature or those in our personal lives, can bring out the best in us. Jason Wright again has woven a story that brings home to my heart how the deepest pains in life can make us stronger.

    A great book

    What a great book. Jason Wright has once again done a fantastic job of looking into the 'typical' family and bringing out a wonderful story. The line of second chances and redemption is so powerful. The scenes in New Orleans after Katrina were so well written I felt I was there experiencing it myself. It made me laugh, cry and most of all feel good.

    A Katrina Masterpiece!!!!

    I got a rough draft of Recovering Charles from Jason a few months ago, but when I started to read it the other evening, I found out that my ISP program had crashed and lost half my saved folders, so was able to get a new final copy to read on my computer. WOW!!!! Jason has done it again, but with New Orleans and the aftermath of Katrina the setting for Jason's newest masterpiece, has really brought forgiveness, redemption and faith together. The beauty of this story and the images we can visualize, bring home to life this horrifyingly true tragedy. The story is about a man who is asked to come to New Orleans to recover his father, who has gone missing. He meets the last friends his father knew while in New Orleans and learns more about his father than he ever knew before. The going back and forth in Luke's life as a boy are so filled with nostalgia. Jason seems to be the only one who can bring on the floodgates with each book he puts his hand to. Everyone should read this book!!! The people of New Orleans would be proud!!!!!

    He wrote another great book !!!

    Once again Jason wrote a great story. You can't help loving the characters he writes about. This is a must read with a really good plot & twist. watch for his movie, Christmas Jars this fall
