About the Author

Editor Ernest Dempsey scours the globe to find the best writers of essay, poetry, memoir, fiction, and psycho-education to match the issue's theme. Ernest writes: My legal name (at this stage of my life) is Karim Khan. I write and correspond with fellow writers and most of my friends under my pen name Ernest Dempsey. Many get curious to know the story backing the pen name. Let’s make it short! ‘Ernest’ comes from ‘Ernest Pontifex’, the protagonist of Samuel Butler’s classic novel The Way of All Flesh. ‘Dempsey’ is from the ‘James Dempsey’, the hero of the British police drama Dempsey and Makepeace that I was crazy about in my childhood.

Education and Career

I graduated in geology from the University of Peshawar (NWFP, Pakistan) in 2001. My passion for literature sparked interest in getting a degree in English Literature and I went a long way to earn a Master in English Literature in 2007. Since September 2005, I have been working as a research associate at the NCE in Geology, a postgraduate research institute in my alma mater. I earn a little from my freelance writing. Having learnt some basic French on my own, I am looking to steal some time off my busy writing schedule to get a diploma in French. My aspiration, of course, is becoming a big name in the writing world.

Lifestyle and Interests

My family labeled me as a ‘bookworm’ in my schooldays and that is what I remain to date. I don’t keep ‘physical’ company of many friends; though many fellow writers and some editors are in my good books. Here, my brother Shais and my colleague Wajid are two very good friends me. Distant in USA, yet close to heart friends include Mike Strozier, Leonore Dvorkin, and Janet Grace Riehl, all of them having great brains. My interests are mostly confined to reading, writing, and gossip. Movies were my craze for several years and now, after a break of about 5 years, I ambeginning to enjoy cool videos on my computer and other some free online movie sites, though the time limit hardly allows it. And yes, I love building airy castles!
