Sixth grade's a lot more fun when your teacher is a superhero!

It's winter break, and Nate has finally begun his training to become a superhero sidekick. The only problem is that Nate has to keep his training a secret from his best friends, Teddy and Fiona. While Doctor Nocturne is busy training Nate and helping Ultraviolet (aka Ms. Matthews) set up a top-secret underground lair beneath Nate's school, supervillian Red Malice is gearing up to attack the East Coast with an enormous tractor beam! Children's Literature - Maggie L. Schrock
The third in Bell's series "The Amazing Adventures of Nate Banks," continues Nate's adventures with infamous superheroes. In this installment, Nate begins superhero training with Doctor Nocturne and researches ideas for Ultraviolet's new secret lair. Unfortunately, Red Malice, an old enemy of Doctor Nocturne, begins an attack on Nocturne and his superhero friends, Dart and Tommy Torpedo. Nate unwittingly becomes involved in the fight between the three superheroes. With the help of his friends, Teddy and Fiona, Nate saves the entire East Coast from destruction at the hands of Red Malice. Just as the action is gearing up, Bell and Giarrusso include an actual comic book as a type of flashback to give the reader background information about the historical fight between the three superheroes and their villain. This comic book provides a vital story for readers, without bogging down the novel with historical information. This book is ideal for young male readers, especially reluctant readers, as it includes many action sequences, as well as references to sports, comics, and superheroes. Reviewer: Maggie L. Schrock
