Gr 5-8-Each title provides an overview of its subject, including its history, mission, organization, accomplishments, and problems. The first book explains how the International Red Cross/Red Crescent helps people during wartime and natural disasters. WWF describes efforts to save endangered animals and to intervene in other global concerns. UNICEF focuses on efforts to advocate for children's rights. Well organized and well designed, with many color photos, these books have sidebars with key facts and informative quotations from a variety of sources, including children and volunteers. Overall, these are balanced accounts. However, Red Cross contains some questionable information. Clara Barton's well-known role as founder of the American Red Cross is minimized without a source being cited. Also, World War II concentration camps are described without reference to Jews.-Marilyn Ackerman, Brooklyn Public Library, NY Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
