Only their show has a lot more working against them than just growing pains. Tested by dubious ranch hands, a ghost from Dex's past, and shapeshifting deception, the amateur ghost hunters must learn to trust each other in order to fight the most ancient of myths...or die trying.

Navajo Shapeshifters! What's Not to Love?

Red Fox is the sequel to Darkhouse and the middle child in the Experiment of Terror series. I eagerly awaited the release of Karina Halle's second book after loving the first, Darkhouse. Although there is some recapping and background information given in the first chapter, I highly recommend reading the first book and not skipping in order to get the full personality, connection and investment in the characters - especially, Perry and Dex. Stand alone, I'm afraid readers won't develop the attachment. With that said, the story itself deals with a new adventure or should I say, nightmarish weekend. This time confronting Navajo mythology, including skinwalkers, and framed by a New Mexico setting. Red Fox is unique because although it has a similar thread when compared to Darkhouse (the paranormal) it is not the same story, different setting. I liked the variation from haunting ghosts to Navajo shapeshifters and the characters reactions to the experience through their inexperience. Poor Perry gets pretty beat up in this one and the tension between Dex and her increases to the point your screaming, "Just kiss each other!" For me, this is a positive and rather refreshing take on sexual tension. It is sweet, vulnerable, restrained and leading somewhere (I hope). As I mentioned in my previous review, the flawed characters are attractive, relatable and oddly heroic. Perfection is not a looming attribute and it is in this depiction of life that draws me in and keeps me reading. Okay, bring on book number three because I'm really hoping Jenn gets kicked to the curb and Perry manages to break away from her parents. We'll see....

Amazing Read!! Highly Recommend this book!!

1st let me say i think it is bullsh*t i could not buy this on my Nook, so i had to buy it from Smashwords..Anyway, on to Red Fox, this book is even better than i expected. Perry and Dex head down to New Mexico to a little town called Red Fox. A couple there is being taunted by something or someone. Stones being thrown at the house, animals running through the house, and sheep turning up dead..Add into the mix Dex's old college "friend" Maximus, and some friends at the ranch, along with lets say not friends, and you've got yourself one hell of a ride. Better than any roller coster. I swear i actually had adrenaline rushes, but that can be said for every book in the EIT series.. Love it. But i might be a little bias, since i think this is hands down the best series ever..

After months of searching, I was extremely grateful when Karina sent me a copy for my Nook. I was so excited to finally have it my hot little hands that I read it in a day.

You can now find a Nook-friendly version on Smashwords.

There's no such thing as a sophomore slump here, folks. Karina brings on the drama and fast-paced action. Perry is one of those characters that everyone will love, since there's a little bit of everyone in Perry.

I'm giving this book 5 stars, even though I was disappointed that I couldn't get it via B&N on my Nook (but as someone mentioned, that's not the author's fault.)
I loved that Perry & Dex go to New Mexico and meet some seriously different people. Problems are running rampant on a Navajo couple's farm, and a long ago friend of Dex's has asked Dex and Perry to come out to help. Is it possible that it's just teenagers playing around or something more mysterious and sinister, a skinwalker? Perry is the forced to deal with some incredible, supernatural moments; while Dex is there to help pick her back up once she is knocked down, time and time again. There were some seriously creepy moments and I love to be scared.

In this book, we get more insight into who Dex is and he becomes more endearing. There have to be things that happened in his past to make him as lost as he appears sometimes. His college friend allows us a glimpse of him and things that have happened. Perry once again is a dynamo heroine. I'm amazed at her bravery and determination. Her feelings for Dex are subtly described, and aren't outrageously flirtatous, yet there is a feeling that they are like magnets and are drawn to each other. Like their souls already know and love each other. Luckily, they get to pretend to be married, so they can make their hosts, the Navajo couple, feel comfortable. At the same time, as a reader, I loved this because it gives them more time alone and puts them in situations where their relationship has to evolve based on this pretense. (I love the dancing in the bar scene.)

If creepy, truly scary books are something you like, this was probably a 6 on my scary scale. I guess at times I felt more of an uneasy feeling at times than scared. My friend, who also read this, truly was scared. So maybe I'm not the best judge. I think the author did a very nice job balancing the paranormal with the relationships and emotional issues in the book. A very great read and I look forward to more from this author.

This was an excellent entry in the series and I really enjoyed it. Ignore the one star reviews that are only complaints about it not being available on the Nook. It's not fair to the author or potential fans to judge a book you haven't even read.
