The Internet has changed the landscape of book publishing forever, which is why leading New York book publishers hire Penny Sansevieri to mentor their own publicity staff. It's also why these major publishers routinely recommend Penny to their authors as a top Internet publicist."
Penny made one of her own books an Amazon bestseller for three months running. She's the inventor of the Virtual Book Tour(tm) and is a leading expert on using the Internet to promote books of all kinds. No ivory-tower theorist, she is a hands-on visionary with her feet on the ground and her eyes on the prize.

Penny Sansevieri, creator of the Virtual Book Tour, has done a masterful job at making a bridge for "new to marketing" authors and publishers to understand and use the Internet to promote their books. Her emphasis is to explain a few of the facts and key strategies. She then gives all kinds of practical ways to implement these strategies to deliver increased and continuing book sales. She explains how the web is a new and different channel, and how it has impacted all the other marketing channels for getting the word out about your book. Her focus is not just to get your name out there, but how to convert that to tangible dollars and cents in increased book sales. Ms. Sansevieri's focus in this book is almost exclusively the Internet. This is a great aid to the more "recluse" author, who is not so interested in lots of people contact in the traditional book marketing and promotion programs. As a result, she talks in easy to understand detail about web sites, blogs, social media, Virtual Book Tours, podcasts, eBooks and other promotion methods that do not require face-to-face interviews and "meet and greets." By following her book you can launch an entire book promotion program from the comfort of your own home with a standard computer. If your current computer navigates the web adequately now, then you are probably ready to follow her advice. What I love about her style is that she does not assume you know too much in advance. She explains the basics and shows you what techniques or tools are available for Internet promotion, and then in a step-by-step manner, shows you how to do it. And if you have any difficulties, she shows smaller steps you can take, and experts you can work with. For the beginning author, no matter what size your budget, once you see what is possible, and how cheaply it can be done, you will find ways to implement something from this book. If you are looking to hire a marketing company (and Ms. Sansevieri has the credentials in her own company) then with Red Hot Internet Publicity as a foundation, you will be able to move much faster and enjoy the ride better. The big message I got is that the Internet has changed the way authors interact with the media and at the same time provides a vehicle so you can interact directly with your potential and current book readers in a fun and profitable way. I highly recommend this book to any beginning author, and I'll bet there are plenty of tips and ideas for seasoned pros. What is exciting to me is that many of the concepts were not new to me, but she explained them so I could understand how to use them on the Internet, and even motivated me to go and do some of the strategies and tactics she recommends. The first thing I did was to revamp my web site and change the focus from lofty expert to "I am looking for ways to help you." Along with this information came a new attitude that, "Yes, by God, I can do this, and here is my map." So as either an Internet only promotion program, or in combination with other strategies, this book lights my path and gets me going. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I have attended numerous workshops and individual mentoring sessions on how to create a website for marketing. This book has been more valuable to me than all of my previous experiences combined.
Any question I could ever ask is either answered or has given me directions for finding the answer.
It is invaluable as a resource to which I return again and again for updating my website.

As early as 2006, book publicists and marketing experts noted that traditional types of book publicity and marketing were defunct, having been replaced by various forms of communication on the Internet. Here Sansevieri (M.B.A., Katholieke Hogeschool Leuven, Belgium; CEO and founder, Author Marketing Experts, Inc.; best-selling author of five books; internationally recognized book marketing and media relations expert; inventor, Virtual Author Tour), a top, hands-on visionary, industry leader, and Internet publicist previously hired by four of the largest New York book publishers to mentor their staffs and leading authors, provides an easy-to-read, understandable, updated guide to Internet publicity and marketing for book authors and other interested professionals. Arranged into chapters covering all forms of social media, it addresses publicity and marketing issues as they relate to online book tours, author websites, linking and affiliate programs, search engine optimization, keywords, author blogs and blogging, tagging, podcasting, social networking, microblogging, virtual book events, virtual networking, online syndication, automating your marketing, email newsletters, e-books, press releases, and more. While not presented as a hands-on, how-to-manual, with step-by-step, nuts-and-bolts screenshots, this insightful, helpful, and noteworthy overview by an expert on promoting your book (and yourself) online is packed with information, advice, and many useful value-added features, not limited to article contributions by insiders, sidebars, bonus chapters, a selected bibliography of print and online resources, and worksheets. Worthwhile, well- presented, and nicely- organized, it will be of significance, interest, and usefulness to book authors and other professionals who desire to self-promote and market on the Internet. Highly recommended for specialized and general readers, this reference publication belongs in many public library collections. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
