From Communist China to Washington DC and from the ranks of the Salvation Army to anarchic German punks, the 24-7 Prayer movement has been interceding continually, night and day, since 1999 in more than fifty countries. One particular story spoke to me profoundly. The author told of an event where a man gave a confession that he did not pray for his anorexic sister. He said "To pray for her is to think about her situation. It means identifying with her and feeling her pain." This agrees with other testimonies of intercessors that I have heard. It is an intimidating thing to realize, but it is true that in order to intercede for someone, you must put yourself in their shoes at least to some degree.
I enjoyed the stories of people going to the prayer rooms that would not ever set foot in a "normal" church building. It may be that the prayer rooms have a positive spiritual draw that makes it easy for people to go there. Or it might simply be the fact that they are open all night long, and many people come to a crisis point in the middle of the night. Either way, it is an amazing way to draw hurting people to Christ. Of course, this alone could cause significant criticism or anxiety on the part of people who are liable for things that may happen by opening the church building at any hour of the day or night.
Another thing that was highlighted is the way they went into the community. It is not about keeping prayer within the four walls of the prayer room. It is good to have some of the team staying behind in prayer, and some of the team out "on the street". The combination of praying and community development is good. It is easy to see how revival could break out this way.
