Short story about a totally forgotten mission, the men who were a part of it and how the Red Tails helped make the mission a success! Excellent!

I had heard of the Tuscagee Airman but that's all. The author in few pages filled in the blanks and provided insight into who they were, why they existed, and what they accomplished, all while telling the story of the rescue of the lost 500. Great story!

Just finished the short Redtails. I then had to research The Forgotten 500. As a woman who doesnt really have much interest in war stories I have been drawn into the story of the Tuskeegee Airmen, the Forgotten 500 and the rally to save them. Both books are must reads for all Americans. WE can all be proud to have had men and women, and to have those now that will fight for our freedoms.

Overview
A brand-new story about World War II’s daring African-American heroesThe Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American pilots in the US military, and Operation Halyard was one of the most extraordinary rescue missions of World War II, described in Gregory Freeman’s The Forgotten 500. Now a newly discovered connection between them has come to light—the “Red Tails” flew fighter cover for the mission. The remarkable story is revealed here by the author whose work James Bradley calls “amazing [and] riveting.”
