The Barnes & Noble Review
Animal-filled trains of bright colors and growing lengths take kids on a jaunty a ride in this zippy concept board book by Will Grace, illustrated by Ed Vere. From one to ten, elephants, giraffes, and penguins chug through different climates to teach young readers about colors and counting. Whether it's a countryside "Red train / Bunny train / Orange train / Lion train" on "Choo choo one / Chugga chugga two" or a desert-bound "Black train / Sheep train" on "Choo choo seven," Grace and Vere's critters ride the rails with smiling faces and loads of energy. The illustrator's artwork provides a cheerful locomotive feeling -- with dark lines and electric colors showering each page with a fast-paced appeal -- particularly at the end, when "Rainbow train / Friendship train / Chugga chugga choo choo ten!" shows all the animals riding in ten train cars, happy in friendship amid the bright-green jungle palm trees. A zippy way to get little learners powered up about numbers and colors, this brilliantly hued board book will add choo-choo charm to any bookshelf. Matt Warner
