Overview

Lady Grace Hashiver has perfected the art of hiding behind a sarcastic wit when it comes to dealing with the rakish Ewan Emmett Duke of Greys, her childhood tormentor. It's her only weapon, for if she let her guard down even for a moment; surely he'd know just how much she loved him. A love she knew could never happen.

Ewan Emmett, Duke of Greys is perfectly thrilled to torment Grace at every opportunity, until an old acquaintance begins an honest suit for Grace's hand. When Ewan begins to feel the pangs of jealousy causing him to question his reasons for his constant teasing of Grace, he discovers a depth of emotion he didn't know he harbored towards the golden haired beauty. Suddenly he is not longer the tease, but on the receiving end of the torment as he wonders if he's to late to fight for her love.

Sometimes, all love needs is a little healthy competition. Wouldn't you agree?

    more from this reviewer

This sweet novella has a lot of chemistry between the characters

This sweet novella has a lot of chemistry between the characters, a simple plotline dominated by emotions rather than events, and a more readable writing style than the average debut epubbed novella.

Although the emotional machinations of the hero and heroine went on a bit long for this reviewer, and although there were the usual Regency-era historical inaccuracies such as a Christmas tree and modern language usage, none of that detracted a whit from my enjoyment of the story. On the contrary, watching Ewan learning to understand his heart, and Grace learning to trust in his love, made for a sweet, endearing tale.

I'll be cheerfully watching for this author's next book. Four stars for the strong debut novella.

This sweet novella has a lot of chemistry between the characters, with fun banter between two people who grew up together as nemisis.

Since they were children, Ewan, the Duke of Greys loved to tease

Since they were children, Ewan, the Duke of Greys loved to tease and torment Grace Havisher. During one childhood Christmas, Grace managed to get the better of Ewan, but it wasn’t enough to make Ewan stop the torment, nor did it stop Grace from developing a crush on him. But Grace is now a debutante and, while the debonair Ewan still refuses to reform, he can’t help but wonder why the attentions Grace is receiving from another man completely disturb his wellbeing. Unbeknownst to Ewan, Grace can never believe the handsome duke will ever see her as more than a mark for his teasing, so she guards her foolish heart behind a sarcastic tongue and ignores the consequence Ewan feels is due him and his title. So, when Ewan suddenly becomes a pattern card of virtue and begins calling on her, Grace doesn’t quite know what to make of his sudden attentions and the unprecedented changes in his behavior towards her.
Redeeming the Deception of Grace is a light and amusing Regency read that kept me entertained and held my interest until the very end. The only thing that I found to criticize was that the author described Ewan as a rake even though he never really exhibited those traits. Branding Ewan a rake detracted from the story because it made me question what he had done to earn such a title. I kept thinking the author would reveal something to solve this mystery for me, but it was only revealed that Ewan was guilty of having the ability to charm women young and old.
