Meet the Author

Geboren am 19.05.1762 in Rammenau, gestorben am 29.01.1814 in Berlin.

Fichte beendete sein in Schulpforta begonnenes Studium der Theologie nicht und arbeitete ab 1784 als Hauslehrer. Er lernte Kant 1792 in Königsberg kennen und veröffentlichte dort seine ersten Werke.

1793 heirate er in Zürich Johanna Maria Rahn, eine Nichte Klopstocks . 1794 erhielt er eine Professur in Jena.

Als entschiedener Gegner Napoleons I. folgte Fichte Ende 1806 der preußischen Regierung nach Königsberg, wo er im Winter ein Semester lang an der Universität lehrte. Von 1810 - 1814 erneute Lehrtätigkeit in Berlin.

Bei der Pflege von an Typhus erkrankten Soldaten infizierte sich Fichtes Frau 1814; sie überlebte dank seiner Pflege, er selbst wurde das Opfer einer dabei erfolgten Ansteckung.
