    Enjoyed this

I found that the Nook copies of the Coligium series are edited versions that have less content than the bound versions. To me, this definitely detracts fom my level of enjoymrnt! I PAYED to read the entire novels, not shortened versions of them. I realized this when I re-read eiher "Intriges' or "Changes". That was quite frustrating. However, I still found all of these novels enjoyable. Please put the entitre book online, or post up-front that a novel has been edited for content.

    Surprisingly disappointed

I have always enjoyed Mercedes Lackey books. She is one of my favourite authors; however, I was sadly disappointed with this latest book. The story, while yet true to her writing style, did not move at the same pace as the others in the Valdemar series. The middle of the book suddenly drops the storyline from taking place in Haven and suddenly Mags is drugged/kidnapped... I was surprised at this turn of events when I know Mercedes Lackey's books have always been well written/explained.
IF what another reviewer states is true (that the Nook copies of the books are not the full versions) then I highly suggest that if you want to read this book, buying a hard copy is the best bet. If it is not true, then I hope this isn't indicative of any future books in the series. I will miss the series, but will not be spending money on something that is not even a full book. Sorely disappointed...

I am a huge Mercedes Lackey fan, and Mags' story is one of the best. I have waited a while for Redoubt to come out and it received it in the mail this morning. Great read and I think I can safely say that we haven't finished with Mags yet.

    Good but still somewhat dissappointing

I have collected and read all of Ms. Lackeys novels in both print form and ebook form. This book is good but lacks the flavorful content of her earlir novels. I must agree with a few of the previous comments. This novel seems more fluff than true substance. Everyone of these Collegium Chronicles novels always seems to end abruptly with little closure and nothing to lead us into the next installment (how many more are there?) of the series. To me...of all the novels she has writtem..my favorites are probably the Mage Winds trilogy and the Storms Trilogy.

    Less Than Good

As a long time reader of Ms lackey's books I find I am buying less and less of her books. This type of book is why. There is simply more and more fill and less and less story. When you compare the quality of this book with one of her earlier ones such as The Black Gryphon the difference in the quality is very apparent. The abrupt change in the middle of the book from Valdemar to the kidnapped Mags was confusing to say the least. Add that to all the filler of games and parties and you end up with a book of not much substance. I have long since quit buying any of Ms Lackey's books except the Valdemar ones and it looks like I won't be purchasing them any more either.

    Too short

So, Mags parents were running but from what?

Is Mags an unoffical White Robe? He accepted the Light of the Sunlord.

Do you think we will ever get lowdown on the fall of the true Son of the Sun and history of Karse? Bet there could be some great stories about these true Red Robes!

    Pretty good

While Redoubt may not be as good as other entries in the Valdemar series, it was still enjoyable. Redoubt is moving past the feel of an introductory book, and starts to treat the reader as someone who is familiar with the world and peoples it deals with.

As with any book in a series, I suggest starting with the first book, never in the middle. While Redoubt does suffer from re-introducing all the characters so you could just pick it up and read it, you will get more out of it if you start from the beginning. For those who've made it this far, it was an enjoyable read. Not too complex, and the characters don't get the growth of others like Vanyel, Elspeth, or Kerowyn it was still worth reading.

It is past time for this series to end. I own and enjoy over 50 of her books so rating one this low is hard. There isn't much meat in the last couple of this series. I mean, how can it take 50 pages (NOOK pages) to describe a nightmare while being kidnapped. I also didn't think the ending was well wrapped up. I'm sure there will be future books of hers that I will really like, but this series is over for me.

    more from this reviewer

I have always enjoyed and book on Valdemar or related to Valdema

I have always enjoyed and book on Valdemar or related to Valdemar (the griffon series) Redoubt is a little disapointing, I'm not sure I liked how the story ended, it was kind of dissapointing. I feel really left up in the air. There are no real hints as to what exactly Mag's found out & I really want another book. I was glad when he and Dallen got back to gether but it seemed to me like Mercedes Lackey was in a real big hurry to end this book. I have gone to her website & have been very dissapointed with any information found on the site, it all seems really old.

    Good addition to the series

It was fun to read about the changes and challenges the kids are going through as they mature and must deal with greater expectations.

Wow. After three amazing books preceding it, I was completely dumbfounded to find that only maybe 50 pages or so of it was both original and actually worthwhile to continuing the series. Throw together bits of Foundation and bits of the Mage Storms trilogy and what you have is the entirely fluff filled nonsense that was Redoubt. I just couldn't believe it. It is completely unworthy of even being called a Collegium Chronicles book, and both the characters and the audience are negligibly closer to a conclusion than we were at the end of the last book.

Never thought I'd see the day...

when I'd be giving one of my favorite authors this low of a rating. This book had so many repeat paragraphs that it read as if Ms. Lackey had cut and pasted them at random, simply to get to a 300 page requirement; especially the dream sequence. Each chapter had enough repeat passages that I found myself skipping literally pages and pages of this book just to get to the new story line.

This book should have been pared down to the very short story it was and added to the one before it. It certainly wasn't worth what I paid for it.

This story was great. Misty makes you actually think about what Mags is going through and doesn't just spoon feed everything to the reader. While some readers may disagree, I really enjoyed the slower pacing of the storyline in this book, I feel like I understand Mags so much better for all the time spent in his head and reading what he actually thought about everything and why it may be important. I am really excited for the next book :)
