Meet the Author

Virginia Wright has been a journalist in Maine for more than 25 years. As a writer for Down East magazine, she writes frequently about the people, places, and culture that define the state of Maine. The former features editor of the Times Record in Brunswick, she is the editor of The Landmarks Observer, a quarterly newspaper published by Greater Portland Landmarks, the city of Portland’s leading advocate for historic preservation and quality new architecture. She lives in Camden, Maine.

Deborah Gagnon Cronk’s father, Al “Red” Gagnon, bought a nearly defunct lunch stand beside the Wiscasset bridge in the 1970s, and the business has been in her family and in her blood ever since. Odds are that if you stop at Red’s Eats for a treat of lobster or clams or their special deep-fried zucchini strips, the friendly face that greets you at the window will be Deborah’s. During the half of the year when she is not working 18-hour days at the restaurant, Debbie enjoys her time at home in Dresden, Maine, where she and her husband raise champion boxers and quarter horses.
