Meet the Author

PAUL ZINDEL (1936-2003) wrote more than 40 novels, including The Pigman, one of the best-selling young adult books of all time, and Pardon Me, You’re Stepping on My Eyeball! His Broadway play, The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds, won him a Pulitzer Prize and was produced as a film directed by Paul Newman.
Mr. Zindel taught high school chemistry for ten years before turning to writing full-time. His work as an author brought him to exotic destinations around the world, from Australia’s Great Barrier Reef to the monkey forests of Indonesia. Drawing from those experiences, he created The Zone Unknown series—packed full of horror, humor, adventure and bravery—with reluctant readers in mind. It includes six titles: Loch, The Doom Stone, Raptor, Rats, Reef of Death and Night of the Bat.

There Was nothing Dead about this Book

Reef of Death was a very surprising book. I thought it would have been okay from just reading the back, but it was very well written. Full of action and suspense Reef of death is a very good book for younger teens.
The book is about a boy named PC who goes to spend the summer with his uncle in Australia. Unfortunately his uncle gets eaten by a mutant fish. He teams up with a Native girl and they use the secret map to find the treasure, but they get side lined with some crazy chick who wants the treasure to fund her weird science experiments. Paul Zindel has written another hit.
The characters are PC, Mural, The uncle, the crazy old man, and the scientist.
Paul Zindel is an excellent writer and if you read this book you'll see why, I thought the idea of a monster in the water was a washed up idea for a book but now I can see I was wrong. Paul Zindel author of The Pigman gets better each book, the next book on my list is Loch and I'm sure it will be a winner as well.
    I think it's a must read!

    Reef of Death

Imagine a great white shark, fused together with a moray eel, with the size of 3 alligators. That¿s how vicious and scary this monster is in the novel Reef of Death. This story takes place in Australia at the Great Barrier Reef. Maruul and Arnhem are the first ones to see the monster. Maruul is a sweet aboriginal girl with her intelligent brother looking for the secret treasure. Arnhem is first to be killed in the novel. PC is a 17 year old who lives with his uncle and grandmother. PC¿s real name is Peter Collins Mcphee, he spends most of his time on the computer and that¿s how he got his nickname PC. The next day PC gets a letter to come to Australia with his Uncle Cliff. Cliff is a under water investigator. Then Cliff buys a red Mercedes sedan convertible. Next PC and Cliff meet Maruul at the Reef. Later Cliff dives in the water to catch a glimpse of the monster, but is too late and is eaten by the monster. Now PC and Maruul go to her tribe to find Wally Wallygong, or just Wally for short because, everyone calls him Wally. Wally is a more experienced person with weird animals. Wally is also a much more intelligent and older person than PC and Maruul. These three now go undercover around and swim for a while and find this boat. PC, Wally and Maruul are captured and wake up near Dr. Ecenbarger¿s feet. Dr. Ecenbarger is an intelligent woman and a mad scientist who mutates animals. Then PC, Wally and Maruul try to find their way out. Now I won¿t tell you anymore because I don¿t want to give away the outstanding ending. Paul Zindel also wrote Lotch (1995) and The Doom Stone (1996). He won the Pulitzer Prize for Effect-of-the-Gamma Rays-on-Man on Marigolds. Mr. Zindel in Montague, New Jersey. This book is a sci-fi book. I enjoy the book because I liked how the author explained the violence in excruciating detail. In conclusion I learned from this book that talking about violence is not bad if it is not hurting someone else.

    Great Barrier Reef

Seventeen-year-old P.C. McPhee is helping an aboriginal girl named Maruul find her people¿s sacred aboriginal treasure. During their adventure on the Great Barrier Reef they run into an old aboriginal man called Wally Wallygong who helps them on their search. They also run into an evil biologist who will do anything to get her hands on the treasure. Now this has turned into a dangerous treasure hunt and not everyone will live to see who finds the treasure first. That was the summary of the book ¿Reef of Death¿ by Paul Zindel. One reason why I liked this book is because it¿s a thriller/adventure and my favorite kinds of books are thrillers and adventures. Another reason I liked this book is because there is a lot of fighting and people dieing and that¿s what makes it a good book. The last reason I like this book is because there are a lot of strange genetically altered creatures in it. Those reasons show why I gave this book a 5 out of 5 rating and I hope you will too.

    Thriller

'Reef of Death' is an excellent, chilling thriller. Horror-lovers will enjoy this book! Jam-packed with gory scenes and cliff-hanger endings. Zindel's similies and metaphors in this book are outstanding! Paul Zindel is so descriptive and creative in all of his books!

    'Great Book'

The book is awesome. At first I thought the book was going to be boring, but once I started reading it, the book got more, and more interesting. P.C goes to see his uncle, and alot of crazy stuff happened when he went to see him. When P.C was scuba diving he saw a ship, and when he went on the ship alot of, weird and crazy things were going on, on the ship. I thought the book was really, really good. I liked the fact that the book was a horror book, I didn't want to put the book down once I picked it up. Another reason I liked it was because the author[Paul Zindel] didn't make the book drag. The book will also make you think twice about going in water! I would recommend the book because, it is a great book.
