A must read if you are becoming a police officer or are one now.

Reflections From The Shield, By Wayne E. Beyea The author kept me glued to the book and with each chapter finished I found that I could not stop from starting the next one. The author speaks from real experience of being a police Investigator. I am still a working investigator in 2007 and what Wayne Beyea wrote worked for him back then, is still working for me today in law enforcement. Some of the author¿s techniques of interviewing still hold true today. My son is on the road to becoming a police officer and within the 1st few chapters of¿ Reflections From The Shield ¿I new it was a, must read, for him too!! The author takes you from the 1st steps of thinking about being a New York State Trooper, his fears and hopes of becoming a trooper in uniformed patrol. Author Wayne E. Beyea gives you some insight as to how being a police officer / trooper effects him and his family¿s personal life, the sacrifices that he and his family endure. You will also see what satisfaction is gained by being a police officer / New York State Trooper in this book and you will also see that the author has written about the injustices in law enforcement and how sometimes crimes go unpunished. Wayne E. Beyea and another great author / New York State Trooper John H. Braint 'ret' have caught my attention, I would have liked to have known them and worked along side of them. Both men appear to have been real Cop¿s, cop. Can¿t wait to read Wayne e. Beyea and John H. Braint¿s next book , both authors books in front of me now and I¿m not sure which one to pick up 1st .

A review of Volume III of Reflections of the Shield

I have read Volume I and Volume II of this Title and now I have completed Volume III,which is an outstanding book. It contains various cases of a criminal nature and other incidents that Author Beyea was involved in as a Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Senior Investigatoi, supervising his personnel in the performance of their duties. The reader will come face to face with the reality of the real world and experience what police work and indepth police investigation is all about. Retd Senior Beyea exercises his duty as a supervisor in a most professional manner taking into the consideration the plight of the victim and fairness to the perpetrator, throughout his entire investigative process, He employs dignity, wisdom, and great skill in bringing a successful conclusion to his and his units investigation. From the read I would gather that his success as a hard working Senior Investigator in charge of matters pertaining to criminal acts et al is his approach to a given problem. His judgement calls are excellent and this book is a must read for readers that may enter the criminal investigation field and readers who enjoy reading about real world law enforcement people. I commend the author highly and this book would be worthwhile in any college's criminal justice course. An excellent read.

    Outstanding Law Enforcement Biography/Historical

Author Wayne Beyea, Retired Senior Investigator of the Elite New York State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation brings to the readers a dramatic book containing true life cases that he supervised during his years as a Senior Investigator in charge of an outstanding BCI Unit. This Volume III of Reflections of the Shield is extremely well done. Some of the stories introduce you to the human psyche of individuals who were stressed to a point of no return. The author in his dedicated profession was sometimes in great danger and his life threatening experiences tested his intestinal fortitude on more than one occasion, As the reader of this fine work it appeared that the Hudson Valley Region of downstate New York was a constant training ground for this alert Senior Investigator. Not only did he have to supervise his BCI unit, but many times actively participated in the investigation of many complicated cases of a criminal nature, but at all times was a dedicated husband and parent to his family. In a gathering sometimes one often hears a conversation about the COP, which is defined as 'Constable of Police.' It is apparent to this reader that the author was an outstanding officer in all catagories. I recommend this book highly for all the public to read and absorb. 'A tip of the lid' to this most capable author for this fine work and also for his service to the People of the State of New York.

    Excellent!

I also served with the NYSP from 1/62 until 9/85 retiring as a First Sergeant. The book is an accurate portrayal of life on the job during the period of the authors service. It does justice to an outstanding police agency that is seldom the subject of a book.

    Outstanding Autobiography!

Once I picked up Reflections From The Shield I knew I better give notice to my family that dinners might be late and household duties would probably be put on hold...because I just couldn't put this book down! Mr. Beyea invites the reader into his life...making this book come alive with action, intrigue, humor, and the human touch...real life stuff! I felt like I was 'right there,' personally involved in these criminal sketches, humourous insights, physical challenges, and the myriad of situations that this book uncovers. Also, each chapter of this book is able to pretty much stand alone, which made it easy for me to say to someone...'Here, you just HAVE to read this chapter,' without me having to give up the book for longer than I was willing to be without it! I am very enthused about getting the follow-up book by Mr. Beyea! I definitely give this book a 5 star rating!
