To Noor's fury, Charlie breaks every cultural norm and pursues her. She wants nothing to do with him: her sole aim in life is to earn an overseas scholarship so she can escape the miseries of the refugee camps.

However when Noor's brother threatens to marry her off, she is forced to seek refuge in Charlie's home, of all places, and suddenly everything Noor believes in is put into question.

Editorial Reviews

London Sunday Express - Henry Fitzherbert
Debut British novelist N.G. Osborne has crafted a brilliantly compelling romantic drama set in a world where love is a lethal indulgence and women are best neither seen nor heard beneath their burkhas … a simple but deeply affecting tale of forbidden love with tenderly realized characters. Come the riveting climax you will have fallen hard for Noor and Charlie, and the many colourful supporting characters, and be hoping against hope for a happy ending. Discovery of the year.

    Superb!

You can tell a novel is first rate when you find yourself thinking about the story and the characters after you've put it down. This is truly an epic work by Nick Osborne. The authenticity he injects into the story and characters is either the product of an extraordinary amount of research or someone who has personal experience of the milieu in which the story is mostly set - Pakistan and Afghanistan - and the cultural traditions that predominate in both societies. Perhaps both. This writer possesses a fantastic ear for dialogue and his prose provides just enough description to trigger the imagination and leave you feeling you can touch and smell the world he creates.

Add to this a finely drawn love story that never makes the mistake of lapsing into cliche and Nick Osborne has delivered a treat.

    Wonderful.

    OMG...this book was AMAZING!
I loved Charlie and Noors story. I love books that make me cry and this book truly made me cry. It is a novel about a forbidden love between two people from different cultures. From the very beginning the story caught my attention and it was very hard to put the book down. The book has a lot of characters and I love how the author describes each character and we get to know them all. Noor and Charlie are the main focus of the book but the way the other characters are brought into the book, it makes you want to read more because it all comes together. This book made me laugh and cry. There was a chapter in the book where it got me so upset, I almost threw the book. I love books that give me all these kinds of emotions, you know the author does a good job when others experience these emotions. Reading this book you can tell the author did not rush but he took his time, did his research and invested himself in the book. Books like these will be spoken of for a long time. Perfect book for book clubs.

I cannot wait for book 2 and see what happens to Charlie and Noor and the other characters.
