    Distinguishing Facts from Fantasies

The author, a Ph.D. in chemistry, wrote the book as a response to the National Academy of Science booklet 'Teaching about Evolution and the Nature of Science'. Within the short space of 140 pages, the book gives a clear, well-documented summary of the major topics of the creation-evolution controversy, e.g. origin and complexity, the design inference, the essential difference between micro- and macro-evolutionary change vis-a-vis the factual evidence (something evolutionist advocates deliberately gloss over), the straitjacket commitment of evolutionists to naturalistic assumptions, etc. The putative evolution of birds, whales, and humans are given a chapter each. The author effectively marshals the scientific evidence to demonstrate that the frequent claim that evolution is proven beyond reasonable doubt, is baseless. As one biochemist critic said of evolutionary dogma 'premises are just about all it's got'. Practical and experimental science is religiously neutral, but evolutionary theory is not. Witness the fact that atheistic scientists frequently use evolution to promote an atheistic worldview, while ruthlessly attempting to censor its critics. This pervasive attitude is illustrated by the following words of a leading evolutionist, quoted in the book: 'We take the side of science in spite of the patent absurdity of some of its constructs, in spite of its failure to fulfil many of its extravagant promises of health and life, in spite of the tolerance of the scientific community for unsubstantiated just-so stories, because we have a prior commitment, a commitment to materialism. It is not that the methods and institutions of science somehow compel us to accept a material explanation of the phenomenal world, but, on the contrary, that we are forced by our a priori adherence to material causes to create an apparatus of investigation and a set of concepts that produce material explanations, no matter how counter-intuititive, no matter how mystifying to the uninitiated. Moreover, that materialism is an absolute, for we cannot allow a Divine Foot in the door.' Leaving aside its misappropriation of the word 'science', the above quote shows why the controversy is so important. This book provides a helpful summary of that controversy.

    Nothing but bunkum

There aren't any facts presented in this book. But it does show the sophistication that has been achieved by the anti-science, anti-evolutionists since The Scopes Trial and W. J. Bryan's pathetic attempts to refute the obvious. The number of favorable reviews also indicate how hard the anti's have worked through their fundamentalist churches to destroy a perfectly good scientific theory--all because of their fear that it contradicts the first book of the Bible (which isn't necessarily true). If you're not just a close-minded moronic Bible-thumper and want to acquaint yourself with both sides of the controversy, check out 'Abusing Science: The Case Against Creationism' by Philip Kitcher. Mr. Kitcher effectively refutes all the questionable claims made in the book being reviewed. Lovers of 'Creation science' would do better to spend their time defending their own theory with more extensive and conclusive evidence. Disproving evolution would not 'prove' creationism.

Great book and set of facts!

In response to the previous review, disproving creationism doesn't prove evolution. :) Anyway, this is a GREAT set of facts and ideas that are great if you want to learn more about the lies of evolution. :)

Tells the Unavoidable Truth About Evolution

The ardent evolutionists will demonize this book all they want, but the facts presented in it just won't go away. A physical chemist himself, Sarfati cuts through the usual 'evolution-is-fact-and-if-you-don't-agree-then-you're-not-a-scientist' hype. Numerous scientists the world over question or reject molecules-to-man evolution, and NOT only the religious ones. Showing that bacteria can acquire resistance to antibiotics is very different from proving that life could come from nonlife, or an apelike creature could change into a human. Must reading!
