Editorial Reviews

LouAnn Schraffenberger
The book is designed to offer basic information about coding and billing of medical services, supplies, and procedures using CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-9-CM coding systems. Additional information is included regarding forms, insurance claims processing, and superbill design. The purpose of the book is to help physicians and other healthcare professionals understand reimbursement management. The targeted audience includes physicians, healthcare professionals, business managers, coders, and billers of medical services. PMIC and Mr. Davis are recognized leaders in physician office management and reimbursement textbooks and resource materials. The book contains eight chapters addressing registration and insurance forms, coding rules and conventions, fee schedules, superbills, dealing with insurance carriers, and managed care. Each chapter begins with a chapter summary and key points. Numerous sample forms are included. Almost half of the book is devoted to CPT and ICD-9-CM coding. As the author acknowledges in his preface, most physicians would prefer to practice medicine and not worry about getting paid for it. In today's competitive environment, physicians and their office staff must be equally concerned with the essentials of reimbursement management. PMIC's book is an excellent resource for the physicians' office. Practical, useful advice is readily available in each chapter.
