Overview

The Network. Being a vampire in the 21st century is not as easy as one might think, especially when the vampire has decided to become part of society once more. Social security numbers, driver's licenses, and vehicle registrations are some of the every day things that modern day vampires have to get around. After all, government officials start to suspect something's up when the same name pops up over centuries. Gathering some of the most talented people in the world, Khalida has created the Network. Their only job is to protect Khalida and keep her from being discovered, and they are good at it. The Family. After thousands of years of hiding, running and fighting, Khalida finally finds people she can trust; people she can love. A select few, she considers to be family. Raymond, Jake, Mack, Marlene, and a few others, will become something she never fully had; a family. She will do anything to protect them. Anything The Past. Being a vampire does not come without its downfalls. Enemies have been made and alliances have been broken. Khalida's secrets from her past may very well topple everything she's built and destroy the family she loves. Ultimately, she will have to choose between a past she's protected her entire life and the family that has sacrificed everything for her.

I acquired this book in the a.m. and finished it the same evening. With every page turned, the pace of the story quickened until three quarters of the way through, a brilliant twist is revealed. I don't like giving away spoilers so I won't go into detail.

Judd's flow is relatively smooth, and while at times I found myself wanting more detail, the story was very engaging. I wished that the character Raymond could have hung around a little longer as his relationship with Khalida was ende

Loved this book and was left wanting more... Thank goodness Dawn came out with Phantom Rising to appease the mind... Still wanting more & waiting for the release of the 3rd to this collection. Would gladly read these over & over again as I find myself engaged in the story with the wonderful layout by Mrs. Judd's ability to paint a descriptive setting whereas it almost feels as if you are right there with these characters! Look out Twilight, there is a new girl in town & her name is KHALIDA!

Khalida is a vampire, and in the thousands of years she has existed she's managed to pile up some secrets, as well as a group of trusted individuals hired to help guard them. Her group is called the Network and their talents range from personal security, to computer hacking, to tracking her enemies, to reinventing Khalida's identity when she's stayed in one place too long. Her life doesn't foster the ability to get close to others very often but when the lives of the few she calls friends are threatened by events from Khalida's ancient past, she must do everything in her power to protect those she cares about. Reining In offers an interesting take on vampire mythology in a fast paced, high-action story. Author Dawn Judd creates an intriguing heroine in the vampire Khalida. With a genre populated by sparkling, spooky, and seductive males; the female with fangs was a refreshing change of pace. Equal parts dangerous hunter and vulnerable friend, Khalida is the element that makes this novel a worthwhile read and I am eager to see where Judd leads her characters in the sequel Phantom Rising.

REINING IN is an entertaining vampire story about love, romance and friendship. The story is seen through the eyes of Khalida, a five-thousand-year-old vampire stuck in a nineteen-year-old's body. Imagine five thousand years on earth; then imagine being hunted for all that time by another vampire. Khalida has not had an easy time, but here in the 21st century, she has managed to find some stability by setting up a group of hand-selected individuals to protect her. However, an unfortunate event unscrambles her carefully constructed network and she is forced to make some hard decisions. I was immediately drawn into Author Dawn Judd's story. The story is delivered in the engaging voice of Khalida. This is a fast paced story with well-fleshed characters. There is never a dull moment. This story will appeal to teens and adults alike. The story ends leaving the reader wanting more. I can't wait to read the sequel, FINDING HOPE!
