Booknews
Provides solutions to the restructuring problems the Department of Defense faces at the end of the Cold War. Thompson (management, Willamette U.) and Jones (financial management, Naval Postgraduate School) apply principles of the new public management, such as streamlined controls and results-oriented budgets, to the Department, and recommend redesigning relationships between mission centers and suppliers using competition and market mechanics rather than administrative solutions.
