Taking three years to release their follow-up to Mutter is a good idea since Reise, Reise is more of the same -- the same grit, the same growl, and the same dramatic, orchestra choruses. There's a bit more ingenuity in the production and a little more focus in the songs but not enough for the nonfaithful to pick up on. Unfortunately the lead single, "Mein Teil," is no "Du Hast," but the damning "Amerika" almost equals their breakthrough track. Whether or not Rammstein's label has the guts to release the band's acerbic "Coca-Cola/Sometimes War" view of the States as a single is another question, but it's the key track to the album, an album that has a couple more, minor ...

Whether or not Rammstein's label has the guts to release the band's acerbic "Coca-Cola/Sometimes War" view of the States as a single is another question, but it's the key track to the album, an album that has a couple more, minor surprises. The loose, bluesy guitar on "Los" adds some quirk to the band's stern, Teutonic palette, while the sinister "Stein Um Stein" creeps more than stomps in parts. That's it for twists and turns, but few bands can industrially grind as convincingly as Rammstein. Same as it ever was, Reise, Reise won't do much to increase the band's fan base, but being a tight, free-of-filler album, it'll satisfy the faithful.

    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

    Bravo Rammstein!

Here we have yet another great musical entry by the German greats! I have had a hard time so far saying which Rammstein album is my favorite, because they're all great! Up to this point, I have reviewed 5 out of 7 albums by them, Sehnsucht & Mutter earlier on, and Live Aus Berlin, Liebe ist fur alle da, Herzeleid, and Reise Reise just recently. I just have Rosenrott to listen through, which I have begun to do as I write this review, and my listening of all of their many great albums & songs will be complete. Dude, if you like industrial, rock, or metal at all...just do yourself a favor and check into Rammstein if you are not familiar with them. Yes, it's in another language, and you may not be able to understand most of what they're saying, unless you speak German, but that has not stopped me from enjoying their music. They are kick@$$! Buy their albums!

    The best!

Rammstein is my favorite band and this is the best of their albums, in my opinion. So the best of the best. ;)

They seem to have smoothed out the edges; more of a sophisticated power, perhaps? The music has, if anything, gained power, but this time it is more of a graceful, deep dark/light juxtaposition (it can comfort you on your darkest day yet add to the beauty and happiness of your best day).

I don't know if this even makes sense, but just wanted to spread the word that this is by far the best Rammstein album. :)

Its hard not to love 'Reise, Reise'!

(before i say anyhting, i know my review is a little late XD but i just now felt like writing one.) In my opinion, this is one of Rammstein's best albums. The songs just give you that eerie feeling, you just can't help but keep listening! on 'Mein Teil', Till growls out the lyrics, which gives it even more of an edge. being one of the first songs i've heard by rammstein, i have to like it. This CD (and the rest of the Rammstein collection) is essential to any hard rocker's collection. perfect for headbanging!! D

    Absolutely phenomenal

Though it differs somewhat in sound from the previous albums, it is still true to Rammstein's style of brilliantly written, controversial, wildly disturbing lyrics snarled out by Till Lindemann, and incredible music. This latest album is strongly symphonic, and reinforces my belief that metal was meant to be accompanied by an orchestra. Reise, Reise is a must-have for any Rammstein fan. On a related note, the woman singing in Russian in "Moskau" is not Yulia Volkova of t.A.T.u, nor is she Lena Katina of same. She is Viktoria Fersh, signed to sing the Russian lyrics because, although the band originally wanted Yulia and Lena for that part, talks with the t.A.T.u. girls' manager went nowhere.

    NEVER YET TO FAIL

Ok, ok, I bet you've heard that this CD is mellow and soft and sucks and blah blah blah blah... Well, it is kinda of mellow, but it's pretty much the same as Mutter, except a whole lot better. There's more depth in their songs and lyrics, and they add a whole lot more interesting stuff: chiors which go along with the song, a Russian girl who sings along with the singer in Moskau, him screaming in Stein um Stein, and two awesome slow songs at the end: Ohne Dich and Amour. Look, Rammstein has never failed to let us down when they come out with a new CD, and this is no different. More depth, and way better than any of their other stuff (even if ALL of their CDs are tight). This is the best CD yet of theirs, and this is an absolute must-have for any Rammstein fan.

    It's different alright

I dunno, I think I like Mutter better just because it was louder. This album is softer and more mellow, which isn't a bad thing!

    The Best Yet!!

After over a year of waiting and two months of counting down the days, the release date for "Reise Reise" finally came. After reading numerous contradicting reviews, (some said mellow and boring, others said loudest and best, etc.),I wasn't sure what to expect, although my expectations were high. In the end, though, this CD exceeded all my expectations. Its just such an improvement from their previous works in such a large way -- even "Mutter", which I thought was a musical masterpiece. The lyrics are stronger, the music is stronger, the drumming is definitely stronger, and there is just more feeling to the album as a whole. (My personal favorite songs are Reise Reise, Dalai Lama, Keine Lust, and Stein Um Stein) So what are you waiting for... GO BUY THIS ALBUM!!

    Best Album Ever

I heard a copy of this before it's release because i got it in Mexico and it's there best work yet. I think this is actually my favorite out of all their cd's. It has a great sound. This is a must for anyone's collection.

    Great album from Rammstein

Reise Reise is possibly the greatest Rammstein album thus far. Don't let anyone tell you that this album is 'softer' than the others. There is an intense power beneath the surface that is revealed in such standout tracks as: Dalai Lama, Keine Lust, Los, Morgenstern, and Ohne Dich (my favorite tracks). I think this album is a step in different direction, but it is definitely a good direction. You must buy this album.

    Absolutely Amazing

My mom just got back from a trip to Germany, and brought me back a copy of Reise, Reise before it is released here in November. I must say, this is one of the best Rammstein albums (despite the fact that they're all good). Throughout the time I've listened to Rammstein, I've found that with each cd, the songs all have a certain sound unique to each cd. Reise Reise is no exception. The songs are something completely new from Rammstein, using different sound elements, including a faded harmonica, a female singer featured in russian, a full choir, even an accordian. While this may sound a bit odd, they really add that bit of depth you expect from a Rammstein song. After listening to this cd the first time through, you just sit there excited, hoping that they'll come on tour in the states soon, just so you can hear these bombastic, crazy, amazing songs live. This album is a definite A+!
