Release Your Brilliance
The 4 Steps to Transforming Your Life and Revealing Your Genius to the World

Chapter One

A Diamond in the Rough

"Each of us is like a diamond, and each of us has the potential to be brilliant."

You hold in your hands a book that can transform your life. How do I know? Because the concepts and ideas presented here altered my life forever. Release Your Brilliance is a complete transformational system. Just as a master cutter reshapes a rough stone, changing it into a brilliant diamond, you can use this system to reshape your life, open the vault deep inside you, and showcase your diamond-like brilliance to the world.

This book is for every diamond in the rough who wants to release his or her brilliance. If you . . .

. . . seek a deeper spiritual meaning to life;
. . . have hit the wall—professionally, personally, physically, or emotionally;
. . . sense that you have the potential to do something great with your life, but don't have a clue what that might be;
. . . desire to discover what you can offer the ever-changing global workplace;
. . . long for authentic relationships;
. . . believe the rest of your life will be the best of your life;
. . . recognize your divine assignment and are content, but want to contribute even more;
. . . feel unfulfilled in your career, working only for the paycheck and benefits;
. . . miss the fun and excitement of life;
. . . find that you are consistently discouraged;
. . . want to stretch and grow as a person;
then I invite you to embark on this transformation with me.

Have you ever wondered why some people seemingly get all the breaks, have all the good looks, find all the great opportunities, and achieve all the success they desire? They live their lives in such a way that people beat a path to their doorstep. I used to wonder about that a lot. Why them and not me?

Actually, I wondered about that for the first thirty-two years of my life as I struggled with disillusionment, defeat, desolation, and despair. I felt my life was a mistake. It seemed as if I were living in a wilderness, alone and disconnected from the mainstream of society. I tried to fit in and get people to like me, but I didn't even like myself. I had no self-esteem, self-confidence, or self-worth. I often wondered if I would be better off dead.

You see, I was living in a world where young black men were portrayed as addicts, criminals, dropouts, and deadbeat dads. Was this what I was to aspire to? The odds were against black males succeeding in America. I believed that my color was my curse. As a boy, another kid once told me that I was "black as tar and ugly as dirt." Those words penetrated my heart. Whoever said that words can never hurt you was flat-out clueless!

I believed that if my skin were white, my hair blond, and my eyes blue, I would be accepted. I resented my parents and wished I had been born into a white family. Everything that was portrayed in the media, everything I saw in my neighborhood and at my school, implied that white was right and black was wrong. I was living in the ghetto—not just a physical ghetto, but a mental ghetto. I believed it was impossible for me to succeed at anything. I was a young man struggling to find my place in the world and to make sense of it all. There were many nights I lay awake and stared at the ceiling, wondering, "How will my life turn out? What will I become?"

My life was transformed when I met life coach Dr. Mark Chironna. He said to me, "You've been stuck in your body and in your mind, acting like you've been cursed because of the color of your skin. You weren't born to fit in. You were born to be brilliant." He saw through my pain and convinced me it was time to let my light shine. I knew in my soul that I was born for more, but I didn't know how to break free of the beliefs that held me down.

Dr. Chironna invited me to embrace the reality and the timeless truth that black—like all colors—really is beautiful. He knows this is true because, although Mark is a white man, he and his wife have adopted two African-American boys. He encouraged me to find, define, and shape my core talents and skills. That day—which I'll never forget—I cried like a baby, pouring out my pain until I couldn't cry anymore.

I accepted his invitation and started an aggressive plan to reframe my world. I read books, kept a journal, actively participated in life-coaching sessions, and did the deep work of dealing with my pain. I realized that nothing was going to change in my life until I changed. I had to transform my thinking, my beliefs, and my actions and take responsibility for the core areas of my life. I cried, I laughed, I examined my life, and I worked—hard—for seven years straight.

The transformation has been nothing short of miraculous, even if I do say so myself. I brought order to my chaotic internal world and took control of my stinking thinking. I learned to forgive myself and not to wallow in the mud. I became filled with belief, confidence, and hope for the future. Today, I live my life by design instead of by accident. I live with brilliant expectancy—I expect to have incredible experiences every hour of every day. And I've been blessed to be able to connect with some of the most brilliant people on the planet. Truly, each day is a treasured gift.

During my seven-year transformation, I became curious about what Dr. Chironna had said—that I was born to be brilliant. I wanted to understand how I could be born brilliant and yet be so dull and tarnished by the age of thirty-two. One day, I found a clue in a book I was reading called Acres of Diamonds by Russell Conwell. His simple message transformed my thinking, and I had an epiphany: Each of us is like a diamond, and each of us has the potential to be brilliant. I was intrigued, so I began to research diamonds. The more I discovered, the more I realized that a diamond is the perfect metaphor to understand how we can become all that we were meant to be.

    Eureka!

    This book has revealed and confirmed a very compelling message of finding your inner purpose and identifying how to excel in life. I would put this book on par with those of John Maxwell and Napoleon Hill. Each author has the gift of teaching you how to transform your life and inspiring you to take the steps to make it a reality. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for ways to realize the gifts God has put in them.

    Release Your Brilliance Simon T. Bailey

    Several weeks ago I had the lovely opportunity of meeting Simon personally, as he was a featured speaker at an engagement I attended. Instantaneously when Simon began to speak, my vision of self and company were altered. Fortunately on my way home that evening, I was able to commence reading his book that was given to me as a gift.

Release Your Brilliance is nothing short of spectacular. Simon¿s vitality, energy and spirit shine as brilliantly as he does in his work. He has a deep appreciation and gift in communicating with others. He is genuine in character and will. If anyone out there has not yet read this book, then you are truly missing out on a life changing experience. Release Your Brilliance has definitely touched my being and will continue to do so as I move forward to new opportunities.

Yvette Price

    Release Your Brilliance by Simon T. Bailey, is not only uplifting, it's inspiring. I was really amazed at how much different this book was from other self-help books I have read in the past. Mr. Bailey writes in a way that makes the reader feel as though the author is in the room with you guiding you every step of the way. I had a lot of `A-Ha!¿ moments, and some of it made me laugh out loud. Some of it made me groan inwardly and there were parts that brought tears to my eyes. Mr. Bailey doesn¿t talk about just how ¿you¿ can help yourself see your own brilliant shine he recounts his own personal journey and how the things he learned can help you. He truly is with you every step of the way. What I really liked about this book is that he doesn¿t give you anything to do that he hasn¿t already done himself. The exercises given in the book are amazing, insightful and helpful. You don't just read about how to shine, or other's stories. You learn it & feel it for yourself. It is a warm, amazing, brilliant shine. Grab your shades you're going to need them.

    From the beginning of this book we are reminded that each of us is born brilliant. Not just OK, and not just special but brilliant like a polished gemstone.... a diamond. The problem with us lies not in the fact that we are born brilliant the problem lies in the fact that we tend to let our brilliance die down and dim as the years go by. Much causes our brilliance to lose it's glimmer, outside sources dim its beauty, others cause us to become less of an eye-catching jewel, but according to author Simon T. Bailey, that does not have to happen. That is not something that we have to put up with in our lives. Our brilliance can be as bright and free from imperfections as we grow older as it is when we are young. The author knows of what he speaks. He spent much of his life struggling to find the brilliance within and it was only with deep introspection and study that he came up with the concepts within this book, concepts that are easily added to ones life to rediscover and maintain that brilliance that lies within us.... some of us having it lying dormant for years. I would suggest this book for anyone who doubts his or her brilliance in life. For anyone who feels their brilliance dimming and who desires the help and guidance to find that brilliance once again and let it shine from deep within. It is a book well worth reading and one that will aid the reader in discovering that which I suspect has been buried for a long time. I know it did me. And lest one feel this review is but one woman's opinion, may I mention, I received not one but two of these books as Christmas gifts from well wishing friends and relatives. Obviously Mr Bailey is doing something right and is reaching far more readers than just myself.

    Eureka! A Brilliant Read!

    have read many self help books. Many of them contain great advice but the advice is easy to forget and the book soon gathers dust upon my shelf. What Simon has done has done differently is given the reader the simple metaphor of comparing us all to diamonds. Like diamonds, we all have to ability to be brilliant and shine from the inside out. Some of us are diamonds in the rough, and have yet to discover our brilliance. Others are in the process of sustaining intense fire and pressure, much the like the process of turning carbon into the worlds hardest and most valuable treasure. Others need to be polished and cut to release our brilliance. So many of us have learned about the 4 Cs when it comes to choosing diamonds. I found it very clever how Simon used the terminology of cut, clarity, color, and carat into giving practical tips how we all can discover and act upon our universal assignment. Having the diamond analogy made it easier to connect and retain the valuable information contained in this book. Definitely, a worthwhile read. I recommend it to everyone who is looking to uncover their greatest gift, the greatness that lies within. Thank you Simon for the reminder.

    New Year's resolution season is upon us and Release Your Brilliance by Simon T. Bailey is recommended reading to help achieve positive changes in your life. No matter what your resolution this book will guide you toward transforming your world into becoming in tune with your purpose in life. The beginning may be a bit remedial if you are a connoisseur of self-help books so don't put it down. Author Simon T. Bailey starts at the beginning so the techniques will be accessible to all people no matter what level they start at. Each chapter builds on the previous with insightful exercises that lead the reader to excavate the brilliance which has been dulled through every day living. He uses the analogy of a diamond throughout the book. His explanation of the three 'c's' of determining the value of a diamond (your life) include clarity (insight), color (beliefs), and cut (actions). All aspects of a person's life are addressed the chapter dealing with friendship contained some powerful thoughts. The author states, 'Remember that you will become like the people you associate with the most. You grow in the context of your relationships. If your relationships have limited content, then your context will be limited. Whoever speaks into your ear speaks into your life.' The deeper you delve into this book the richer the material. The exercises dig deeper into your psyche and gently lead you to re-evaluating your life and choices. There is also a web-site for further exercises. This book is a refreshing change from many self-help books. It inspires the reader to look at all aspects of their life, to polish them so they can release their brilliance and make positive contributions to the world.

    You Have Always Been Brilliant

    Life changing, motivational books are only effective if a connection is made between the author and reader. The reader must believe what the author is sharing and then make changes in their own personal life. Through ¿Release Your Brilliance,¿ Simon Bailey has connected with the reader as a real person, sharing his own personal story and using symbolism that is understandable to all readers to share the knowledge he has gained through his own life experiences. Throughout this journey, we are compared to magnificent diamonds that are already ¿Brilliant.¿ We are taught through the process of reflection and journaling exactly how to release the brilliance that is within each of us. Reflection is the key component and Simon helps the reader to reflect on many parts of their life in a new and inspiring way. We are encouraged to examine all relationships, goals and ¿Facets¿ of our life. Once or ¿Facets¿ are polished and refined, our inner ¿Brilliance¿ will begin to shine and others will notice the positive changes we have made in our lives. In addition, real-life ¿Brilliant¿ people share their stories with us which help to clarify, focus and motivate the reader to answer questions and develop plans to enhance the individual¿s own life. In addition to this book, Simon has many additional tips and resources available on his website and DVD.
