This book has everything romantic suspense readers love, and a whole lot more. Cajun detective Remy LeBeau is the alpha hero most women swoon over, and he meets his match in sassy barrel racer Cody Lewis.

A twisted killer is on the loose in Dallas, and Cody Lewis fits the victim profile. Her stubbornness chips away at the wall Remy LeBeau erected years ago to protect the ones he loves. The Rodeo Sweethearts case brings a cold case to life again and puts Remy exactly where he doesn't want to be--in the spotlight.

Winter's knowledge of police procedure and the professional rodeo world shines through on every page. Sparks fly immediately between Cody and Remy and the romance between them keeps the pages turning as fast as the killer stalking them. An amazing cast of secondary characters flesh out the story and leave you wanting to know more about them.

The pace of the mystery is, to borrow the title, relentless. Nor does she make it easy to figure out who the killer is. To me, this is the hallmark of a truly well crafted suspense. The listed genre may be romantic suspense, but it reads more like a thriller. Always a good thing in my book!

Relentless is the first book I have read by Winter Austin and I

Relentless is the first book I have read by Winter Austin and I just loved it. Austin was able to drag me into her character’s heads in such a way their emotions became mine. No spoiler alerts here, but when Winter’s brings together a mysterious New Orleans cop, a champion rodeo barrel racer, and a ruthless serial killer, there are so many twist and turns, it had me guessing until the very end.
I loved the bad-tempered Cajun cop, Remy LeBeau. Hot man, hot name¿what’s not to love? He has past that haunts him, drives him to be a better man, a better cop. And his Cajun dialect mixed into his dialogue sizzled right off the page.
Cody Lewis is my kind of romantic heroine ¿independent, driven, but compassionate. I love the relationship she has with her father. But it was the relationship with her mother that makes Cody a strong character. Winter Austin did an amazing job sprinkling her mother’s heart-wrenching story throughout the story so I felt Cody’s heartache. Her mother was such an important person in her life, Cody not only drew strength from her mother’s memory, but it helped defined her.
I wouldn’t do this story justice if I didn’t mention the chemistry between Remy and Cody. The sexual tension between them is just plain hot. Honestly, I have no idea how Cody was able to resist Remy for as long as she did.
Relentless is a page-turning, emotional romantic suspense. From the sights and smells of the rodeo, to the sick mind of the villain, I was hooked, and couldn’t put the book down.  The best part is that Winter Austin isn’t done with Remy and Cody. Retribution is coming out in June 2013. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy.

First, I love a good suspense. This is one. Second, I love a good series that leaves me panting for the next installment. This is that too. Third, I love a heroine with chutzpah – Cody has it in spades. And I like my heroes, especially the arrogant ones like Remy, to be a little vulnerable.

This book fired on all cylinders for me. I was pissed when it was over because despite the very satisfying resolution to the story arc, the relationship arc is far from resolved and I knew I had to wait until June for part two, Retribution.

Having no life experience whatsoever with barrel racing or the rodeo circuit, I wasn't sure if I'd follow this. Not to worry, Detective Remy LeBeau was just as clueless as I was in the beginning. Of course, in his job, being clueless isn't such a good thing, especially when bodies keep popping up - all with an eerie resemblance to the woman he's romantically linked with.

To make matters worse, the serial killer is toying with Remy personally. However, protecting his spicy horsewoman, Cody Lewis, is no easy feat. When he can't corral her, he'll settle for reining her in, but even that proves more difficult than controlling the very first horse she puts under him.

The suspense will put you through your paces and keep you turning pages. The climax is wonderful, gripping and exciting. In the end, you've got resolution, but there are still lingering questions, gaps in Remy's back story, and Cody's, that will keep your mind occupied beyond the final page. Luckily, I understand there's another coming. Good.

Are you a rodeo lover?  Do you love books that are based in Texas? Do you love a book that has romantic and suspense elements to it?  Have I gotten your attention yet?  =)

"Relentless" is the first book in Winter Austin's Degrees of Darkness Series and I definitely look forward to reading the second one after reading this one.

The Rodeo Sweetheart killer is back and women with red hair are being targeted in Dallas and homicide detective, Remy LeBeau is on the case to find out who it is.  Remy wants to figure out why the killer is targeting certain women and also find out if the previous detectives are hiding something that happened before.  He has Cody Lewis that actually finds one of the women's bodies in her horse trailer.  Now Cody is in danger of becoming a victim of herself since she fits the killer's victim's descriptions.  Remy is not supposed to be getting attached to Cody due to what happened in his past.  Unfortunately, Remy finds something about Cody that is intriguing.  She's a stubborn, strong-willed woman who will do at anything to have her dream come true in being the top professional barrel racer in the nation.
The killer though has other plans and it is up to Remy and his partner to crack the case before the killer kills someone else, particularly, Cody.

Winter Austin takes you on a chase to find the Rodeo Sweetheart Killer before it is too late.  Once the killer is discovered, you'll be in shock like I was who it actually was.
Be prepared for twists and turns in "Relentless" and once you do read "Relentless" you'll understand why it was named that title exactly.

Remy was not always my favorite character due to his reluctance of showing his feelings toward Cody and Cody was difficult also.  She has her dreams though to conquer, while Remy was hiding secrets. Remy was even losing trust from his partner as well due to hiding his past.

I definitely recommend this book to romantic suspense and thriller readers.  There is more suspense though in this novel than romance, but you'll be more focused on cracking the case along with Remy than dealing with what Remy and Cody were trying to hide.

I was provided a copy of the book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.

Relentless is a page-turning, heart-pounding romantic suspense. Both characters have a past that threatens their future. A stubborn rodeo girl and a sexy, hot-tempered Cajun cop come together to stop a serial killer before one, or both of them, end up a victim.

Winter Austin takes the reader behind the scenes of America's rodeo, down the streets of Dallas, and into the mind of a ruthless killer seeking revenge. Read this one with the lights on.

The first in a series involving the same two characters, readers will be anxiously awaiting the next installment.
