    I Also Recommend:

    Great book of Fiqh

This isn't a basic book. For people who have already understood fiqh at a Basic level, this book is amazing. Essential for people following the Shafi'i madhab. It has both Arabic and English for people learning Arabic. The only negative I would put, is that it has small additions of the Ashaira Aqeedah.

    Traditional Jurisprudence for Modern Muslims

Nuh Ha Mim Keller's book is a must for any English speaking Muslim who wants a guide to orthodox Sunni jurisprudence and theology. The book focuses on the Shafi'i school of law and the Ashari school of theology, but contains information about other schools of thought as well. The appendices and biographical sketches contain a wealth of information, and the main text covers everything from purification to economic transactions to judicial administration.

Excellent!!! A great translation of the traditional Shafi'i Jurisprudence text

The Reliance of the Traveller is a must for those who are interested in studying or reading about Islamic law and jurisprudence. This book not only covers Shafi'i Islamic jurisprudence but also other topics in it appendices and has a detailed biography of all the people mentioned in the book. I honestly feel that this book should be a the criteria to which traditional islamic books should be translated. Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, the translator of the text, reflects the traditional method of learning Islam from masters in an unbroken chain that goes all the way back to the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) himself.
