Overview

"Remarkable Journey" explores the life and times of Solomon Ortiz, a distinguished veteran of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983-2011. This explores his early life, his military service, his heroic law enforcement work, and his 28 years of public service in the United States House of Representatives.
In Congress, Ortiz was a leading player on the national stage on issues that had great impact on U.S. history in the early 21st Century (military readiness, border security, the 9-11 aftermath, health care and economic development).
Ortiz' longevity of service includes a deep involvement with Texas redistricting, provides context for the evolution of political tenor in the U.S., and offers commentary on the state of politics today and tomorrow.

Meet the Author

Cathy Travis worked on Capitol Hill for 25 years - the last 18 years as a communications director, senior advisor and political consultant for Solomon Ortiz, and later for the Texas Delegation Democrats.
She left Congress to be a full time author in 2008.
A native of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Travis graduated from Arkansas State University and resides in Washington, D.C.
Her first book, the award-winning Constitution Translated for Kids, was hailed by partisans in all major political parties as an even-handed, non-ideological rendition of the founding U.S. document.
