About the Author

Mariët Westermann is Director of the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. A leading specialist in Netherlandish art, she is author of The Art of the Dutch Republic 1585-1718 and The Amusements of Jan Steen: Comic Painting in the Seventeenth Century.
