Overview

Beatrice Holt seems to have it all. She's got a passionate and loving marriage to the perfect man, billionaire Jeremy Holt, and all the opportunities and financial security that comes with it. However, life wasn't always so wonderful. When a tragic accident results in amnesia, she is effectively transported back to a time when all her emotional wounds are still causing her intense pain. She can't remember how those wounds were healed the first time around, she can't remember her marriage, she can't remember the man behind the money at all. All she sees in Jeremy is the very kind of man she swore she would never fall for.

Can Jeremy find a way to make her fall in love with him all over again and make lightning strike twice? Can he help Beatrice remember their song or has their one chance for happiness slipped through their fingers?

Excerpt: "...close your eyes, Bea. It's just you and me here, and you're a star."

My eyelids dropped and I took a few breaths to settle my nerves. Listening to the steady lapping of the waves, feeling the 'beat' of the island, I licked my lips. The first few words were off-key and sounded slightly strangled, as they so often did. Singing always reminded me of my Dad, my first number one fan, and I couldn't help but get choked up.

Soon though, I concentrated on the song, what it meant, and felt my throat relax, letting the words come out clear and strong. It was a song of unexpected hope, of self-realization, of us. It was our love put to music and it was the only song I'd ever written. For now it belonged only to the two of us, I wouldn't sing this at my audition.

The last notes finished and I opened my eyes to look up at Jeremy, who still had his closed. He was holding my hands between us and playing with my wedding ring, his smile widening when he opened his eyes. From the beach I heard clapping and turned my head to see another young couple had paused their romantic walk to listen to me. I buried my face on Jeremy's chest to hide for a moment but peeked out and waved from the safety of his embrace until they stopped their applause and the man spread out a blanket for them to sit on and look out over the water..."

I'm in my thirties and living in New Zealand. A little over a year ago I lost somebody very close to me. I was lucky in a way, I was given enough time to make a promise. My promise was that I would never forget our young and innocent love, and it's a promise I intend to keep.

My writing is a way to help me keep that promise. I've always enjoyed writing but was forced into being 'prudent' and giving myself over to soul-crushing office work for the sake of a steady salary. Recent events forced me to re-evaluate my priorities and I decided to take a chance. I like to put little pieces of 'us' into my writing, from funny conversations we had, to apocalyptic arguments, to that special feeling you get when you hop into bed fully aware that your feet are freezing but your partner doesn't kick you away.

What would you do if you woke up in the hospital and didn't know

What would you do if you woke up in the hospital and didn't know the man sitting by your bed? This is a story about Bea and Jeremy, married a few year and while on vacation, he gets a call to come and fix a problem at work. he is a self made billionaire and flies his own helicopter. When the unthinkable happens. They are in an accident and Bea doesn't remember Jeremy or the last eight years. She thinks she is still 18 years old and on her on, no one is taking care of her. She is so independent and I wanted to reach into the story a shake her a few times. But when you learn her past and why she is the way she is, you will understand. While she moves to Seattle and away from Jeremy, he is falling apart. Can he help her remember? Will she realize that all he is saying is the truth of who she is? Will she finally remember before it is too late? This is a first for me by Emma South and I loved it. Can't wait to read Writing Our Song.

    Emotionally Grueling

A beautiful and rare time away from the responsibilities of running a financial empire and always being front page gossip news ends in disaster and the pain of losing the love of your life to amnesia. Both Jeremy and Bea become the victims of Bea’s memory loss. Eight years of her life are wiped out in an instant. She cannot remember her husband, their shared fairytale romance and devotion to each other. The last thing she can remember is being an outspoken seventeen-year-old, not the woman and wife she has become to a young billionaire. Can you imagine the chaos going on within to look at the man you have shared everything with and not even recognize the goodness within this powerful person? Can you imagine watching the woman who is your best friend, who you would give your life for, looking at you with suspicion, and sometimes distaste, but never with the eyes that always let you know you were her world?

Needing to find herself and try to heal, Bea cannot be around Jeremy, resents his money and insists on moving on with her life, desperate to find the missing years, but willing to accept that she may never achieve that feat. The torment each feels, the experience each goes through, the pain they inflict, unintentionally on each other will rip your heart out. Is there a point when one or both will give up on ever re-kindling what they had? Will they each find a solution to end their struggles?

Remember Our Song by Emma South is anything but a typical romance, it has a soul that is almost tangible to the touch. Ms. South has gone far beyond the norm by exposing the inner turmoil that Bea is feeling, everything from fear to loss to regret and even resentment. Why her? How will she start over? How will she cope with losing so much when she doesn’t even know what it is? As far as Jeremy, he is almost dream-like for much of this tale, never fully fleshed out until closer to the end when he becomes so painfully human and vulnerable. The satellite characters range from quirky to sweet and fill their roles so well. With touches of humor, love and determination that builds to the final scenes, I admit, my heart was racing, not knowing what to expect as the last pages unfolded. I actually had to re-read a few before I would allow myself to continue to the last page. Do yourself a favor, pick Remember Our Song and feel what I felt when I put myself in both Bea and Jeremy’s shoes.

    It was worth the time.

This was a decent story, but came across as a little inexperienced in the writing...a few missing words, grammatical things, etc. It wasn't enough to make me regret the purchase, or the time I spent reading the book.

The concept was very good, but this story could've been out of the park with a little more time and fleshing out of the characters. For example, I never got a clear image in my mind what Jeremy looked like, other than he was tall, good looking, with washboard abs. Same goes for Bea's blonde hair. I'd love to see this written in third person and include Jeremy's POV. I'm also curious about Bea's mother and want to know why Bea was so determined to be independent. Perhaps those reasons will be explained in "Writing Our Song". The story did pick up at the end, giving me a little more drama and angst that I was looking for. I do plan to follow this author as I feel she has tremendous potential.
