Overview

Years before Trip Wiley could be seen on movie screens all over the world, he could be seen sitting in the desk behind me in my high school English class. This was back in 1990, and I cite the year only to avoid dumbfounding you when references to big hair or stretch pants are mentioned. Although, come to think of it, I am from New Jersey, which may serve as explanation enough. We were teenagers then, way back in a time before anyone, himself included, could even dream he'd turn into the Hollywood commodity that he is today. I'm sure I don't need to tell you who Trip Wiley is. But on the off chance you've been living under a rock for the past decade, just know that these days, he's the bad boy actor found at the top of every casting director's wish list. He's incredibly talented and insanely gorgeous, the combination of which has made him very rich, very famous and very desirable. And not just to casting directors, either. I can't confirm any of the gossip from his early years out in Tinseltown, but based on what I knew of his life before he was famous, I can tell you that the idea of Girls-Throwing-Themselves-At-Trip is not a new concept. I should know. I was one of them. And my life hasn't been the same since.

HOLY COW, I'm glad I waited until the books were all released! I LOVE this story, I can't wait to start book #2. This cliffhanger would have killed me! Just wanted to say, great story. Funny, nostalgic, clever, romantic, oh, and I'm in love with Trip, the main character. Must go now - must keep reading - can't put down! Highly RECOMMEND! S.A.K.

I'm an 80's girl. I graduated in 89 so I could really relate this this story. I also think the author depicted the feelings of young love perfectly. I married my high school sweetheart and felt like our experiences were very similar to those of the characters in the story. I'm torn about reading the next one. This one was so perfect I'm afraid the next one can't live up to it. However, I want to know what happens next.

Before Trip Wiley was a big movie star heart throb he was Trip Wilmington, the new kid that moved in during senior year of high school. The boy who Layla harbored a crush on for the entire year. The boy who she spent not only a lot of time thinking about but hanging out with as well. The boy she loved and left behind for college. This is their story. Wow! I was expecting this to be a cutesy young adult novel and I guess it is that but there are definitely some more mature notes to this that would borderline what most consider new adult. There were some sexual scenes that were hashed out for the reader that would not be appropriate for a young adult to read. So keep that in mind before you read this one. I loved their story. These two start off as strangers, become friends, then straddle the line between friends-zone and relationship. There was no insta-love, no declarations of love, no sappy b.s. to make me roll my eyes. Sure there was a lot of angst but it was believable. I mean, I could totally see myself in Layla’s situation when I was a senior in high school. I mean, you have this hot guy who comes out of nowhere, flirts with you, hangs out with your group of friends, but one days shows up at a party with another girl on his arm? I thought for sure he was into her, but then you start thinking, maybe flirting is his charm? Maybe he doesn’t want to ruin his new found circle of friends by dating one of the group members? Or maybe he does in fact like her but isn’t sure where she stands and doesn’t want to make an ass of himself, so he settles for a different girl with whom he’s on even playing ground with? Who knows, but what I do know is that when I was young and dating my now husband I was a total spaz. I was all chummy and confident around him when we were just friends but once we started dating I did the stupidest things… like seeing him walking down the school hall towards me at my locker, only to slam my locker shut and run down the hall in the opposite direction like I hadn’t even seen him. :rolls eyes: Yes… yes I totally did that, and on more than one occasion too. Did I mention that I was also a senior in high school at the time? Apparently my quirkiness intrigued him. Ha! So, sometimes liking someone makes you do some pretty stupid things. Which is probably why I ADORED this story. It was like reliving my senior year all over again… just minus being the popular girl part. That was the Mr, I was the quiet girl who kept to her small group of friends. Okay, let’s get back on track. If you haven’t figured it out yet, I loved this book. The only reason I didn’t finish it in one sitting is because I started late in the day and just about passed out while reading it in bed, only to wake up, make coffee and curl up on the couch until I finished it around lunch time. It’s a good thing the Mr. was away on a business trip because he’d have otherwise needed to fend for himself for dinner. The characters were lovable, the relationships between them were real, and I felt like I was right there with them living it up in the 80’s. For about half of the book I had a smile plastered on my face while reading. I could not get enough of the story. I will most definitely be continuing with the story because after all, the next book starts with Layla meeting up with Trip during a magazine interview almost 10 years after they parted ways. MUST READ NOW!

This book was amazing!  I thought I'd read a chapter before going to bed.   Next thing I know it's 3 AM and I'm trying to see if there's more books by this author, hopefully in this series, and if I can get it in paperback.  Yes, I want to add this book to my shelves. Yes the book has a movie star and the bad boy angle, but I absolutely loved Trip, especially since the book wasn't what I was expecting at all. I thought I was going to get lots of smut, which is great, but I didn't have high hopes for the rest of Trip and Layla's time together.  Boy was I wrong.  This is a beautiful story, and I can't wait to read more about Trip and Layla. As much I loved Trip, I think I loved Layla more.  She's beautiful on the inside and out, but it's her voice I adore most of all.  She's irreverent and so pragmatic.   If I'm not making much sense, it's because I'm finding it hard to put into words why this book clicked with me.  I'm going to have to tell you to pick it up for yourself and see if it doesn't blow you away too.

Absolutely the best series I've read in a long time! Loved, loved, loved it. Tina is a rare talent, all three books kept me on a wonderful emotional roller coaster. I'll be reading this again and, of course recommending it to all my friends. Thank you Tina for Lay and Trips story. I can't wait to see what you have next.
