Overview

One mistake can shatter dreams and irrevocably shape the future. Alexis knows this first hand. Even though her memory of that day is hazy, she has spent the last ten years trying to put it behind her and focus on the future.

Armed with the knowledge that her career will be her only legacy, Alexis works night and day to prove that she is more than just her last name. It's not only that she doesn't have time for love - she doesn't have the heart for it. After all, there's no point in starting something that you can't finish.

However, when she meets Adam, she's drawn to him in a way even she can't deny. The film student is dark and brooding and strangely charming. He's the perfect distraction from the mundane life she's created for herself. And, as if fate is pushing them together, he seems to be around every corner. It's enough to almost make her entirely forget about her past and take a chance.

Unfortunately, Adam's memory isn't hazy . . . not in the least. And, what she doesn't remember, he can't forget.

Meet the Author

Jenni Moen lives in her hometown in Oklahoma with her husband and three crazy, exuberant kids that have the potential to burn the house down at any moment.

When she's not chauffeuring kids, performing her mom duties as a short order cook, or vacuuming for her fastidious husband, she hammers away at her keyboard at her big girl job as a patent attorney. While vodka and exercise have provided some relief from the daily grind, it is reading ... and now writing ... that are her true escapes.

I was gifted this book for an honest review.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I liked it, but also felt that it went on and on and on. The characters had real problems and insecurities which made them more relatable. I enjoyed the secondary characters with their quirky personalities and crazy hang ups. I felt like the book portrayed deep emotions but not as many as the story should have evoked from a reader considering the tragedy it is centered around. It is about revenge, sorrow, remembrance, forgiveness and acceptance; which all the characters experience at different times based on their personal journeys. It took awhile to become invested in the outcome for these chapters, but over time they stole a place in my heart. During the course of the story Adam grows as a person and begins to realize there is more to life than he previously imagined. Both he and Alexis work through their own self-doubts and uncertainties after many revelations on both sides. In the end I was content with their decisions, but was left wondering what their next moves are going to be.

Remembering Joy was a wonderful ready but left me feeling like I was on a train ready to crash at any moment. In the day it took me
to read the book, I became completely and thoroughly invested in Adam & Allie's life. I knew the tradgedy would happen but just didn't
know when or how it would play out. The play out was torture. And although the book ended on a more happy noted, it was in no way
a HEA. I need book 2 to be released asap or I will stuck on this story for weeks

I found this surprise gem by reading a review of the book on my BFF's blog. She insisted that I would love this book and she was...as usual...right. Remembering Joy was a book I'm not likely to forget anytime soon. It kept me guessing and made me fall in love. Pretty great combination, right?!

I won't be discussing what the book is about exactly, because you can get a general idea from the synopsis. So, I'll give you a little idea about how I felt about getting to know these characters. I'll start with Alexis. I liked Alexis immediately. She's smart, sweet, and ambitious. What we learn about her is all in the present, but my favorite parts about getting to know more about her were through her dreams. It wasn't a pleasant experience, per say, but I thought Moen structured this book brilliantly by using her dreams to help the story unfold. While I may not have liked Alexis pre-memory loss, I admire the person she's become as a result.

Elusive, mysterious and utterly sexy, Adam stole and broke my heart. Adam is just the kind of guy I'm drawn to. But there is a side to Adam that is haunting, which I suppose was part of his appeal to me. Aside from Adam's dark, mysterious appeal, he's also got a great sense of humor. His t-shirt collection is one I'd like to hi-jack. His inner battle over his feelings for Alexis made me love him even more. It was raw. It was real. It was enthralling. I have to say with as much as I liked Alexis, Adam made this book for me.

I know this may be a fairly vague review, but this is the kind of book you experience. And overall, I loved it. There were times where I thought I had the story figured out and some of my guesses were even right, but as I mentioned, the way in which the story unfolds made it special, unique. The ending left me a bit breathless and anxious for the sequel, which is set to release late 2013. It'll be a drop everything and read. If you're looking for something a bit different and will completely pull you in, this is the book for you.

    Quotes:
"You have sex with no strings. You drink your coffee black. You have a good job and can support yourself. You are like a dream come true. Do you drink your whiskey straight, too?"-pg 82

~For a second, I forgot why we were here. I loved it when she was like this, so full of good ideas and bad intentions.-pg 242

~This girl was going to be my come apart. I was sure of it.-pg 256

~As I spilled into her, I felt like I'd succeeded. She had to know what this had meant to me, that she was my everything and that I could be her everything. I didn't know how to convey that feeling in words, but I knew that she felt it nonetheless.-pg 326

Remembering Joy was such a lovely surprise. So striking, mysterious, and heartbreaking, that I hardly know what to say. This is a story that is so intricate, so cleverly mapped out. I can hardly believe this is Jenni Moen's debut novel.

Because so much of the beauty of Remembering Joy is the surprising plot and the way it slowly and steadily unfolds, I don't even want to touch that. To be honest, if someone spoiled Remembering Joy for me, I would cut that person. Then break their Kindle.

I had only made it as far as twenty-five percent into the book when I decided I had to shout about it on social media. Several of my friends responded to my enthusiasm by saying they would add Remembering Joy to their to-read list. One friend, I'll call her....Karen (Hi, Karen!), asked the question I was waiting for: "Sounds good, but is this the typical 'New Adult'. " Even though I don't categorize Remembering Joy as New Adult, that's a fair question.

There is nothing at all typical about Remembering Joy. Yes, there is a heroine who's been shattered by a tragic event from her past, but Alexis is beyond being typecast. There is also a broody man with dark secrets, but Adam isn't a jerk, conceited, or a womanizer. His love for his car and his always awesome graphic t-shirts always made me smile. Seeing Adam and Alexis slowly come together is both irresistible, and like awaiting a tragedy. Their story is emotionally profound and beautiful. They have a very sensual, and almost dangerous chemistry, but Adam and Alexis won't find the answers to their problem between the sheets. Their stories are united by tragedy and pain. In each other, they might find the way out.

Good grief. I am thisclose to completely losing it and spilling the story details. I want to gush about the suspense and emotions that make up Remembering Joy. I want to go on and on about how beautifully and truthfully Moen was able to characterize these two lost souls. I will say that Remembering Joy consumed my day, and that I was so blown away that I followed my husband around all day recounting the story. Which, by the way, caused him to say, "Sounds like a good story. Thanks for ruining it for me." (Sorry, babe!) I really need someone to talk about it with!

Remembering Joy was an absolute pleasure for me. And I know it is a story I won't soon forget. Please, please read it.

I read this book in one sitting, because I simply could not put

I read this book in one sitting, because I simply could not put it down. Alexis guards her heart like no other. She is not looking for prince charming and avoids relationships with the opposite sex at all costs. This changes when she meets Adam. He is mysterious and brooding, but she feels the connection with him and she doesn’t know why. Adam knows something that Alexis has been trying to forget.
I absolutely adored this story. This was one of the most beautiful love stories in that out of pain, loss, and grief, came love. A love so strong that survived the unthinkable. I cried and laughed through this story, enjoying it in its entirety. The electricity between Alexis and Adam was undeniable. It literally oozed out of every page. I enjoyed the author’s style of writing. The flow of the story was amazing. I was on edge at times and could not predict what would happen next. I wasn’t even sure if a happily ever after was possible. However, with love all things are possible.
Remembering Joy is not your average love story about two broken people. It is better than that! It is a beautiful and heartbreaking story about two people that are proof that everything happens for a reason. That no matter the circumstance, love really does conquer all. At all times, choose love.
Overall, I recommend this book to any lovers of contemporary romance. I cannot stress how many stories sound the same, but not this one! Never have I read about such strong characters like Alexis and Adam. This was definitely a strong debut for the author and I look forward to more of her work.

    Amazing!!

Moen hits this out of the park.. It touches on a 50 Shades feel with a story that draws you in with every twist you can imagine. I am definitely looking forward to the sequel. Adam and Alexis are the perfect mix of beautiful and broken. 5 stars all the way
