    before behavorial psychology

An interesting autobiography of a day trader. He was obviously addicted to gambling and beliveved he saw patterns in his big profits and loses. They make 1-800 hotlines nowadays for those with his gambling delusions, and behavorialists have printed many books about the topic. This is a good case study to read.

Amazing for anyone who wants to understand the stock market!

Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is a great book for anyone interested in the stock market. It does not matter that the book was written about the market in the 20's--it matters that the lessons are timeless.

It is a fun and easy to read book that tells you about bull and bear markets and about all the characters that trade in these.

Inspiration for my own trading and writing

This is probably THE classic book on stock market trading, despite its age. You will find insights into Larry Livingston's (aka Jesse Livermore's) trading rules and trading psychology, on top of which it's a cracking story.

This book has influenced my trading style more than any other book, and was one of the inspirations behind the writing of my own book on trading.

Legendary 1923 Stock Trader Gets Novel Treatment

Edwin Lefèvre published this classic in 1923. His subject is Jesse Livermore, an infamous speculator and the world¿s first documented successful day trader. Lefèvre thinly disguises Livermore, assigning him the fictional name Larry Livingston. First published as a series of Saturday Evening Post articles, this book explores greed, fear, envy and the relentless pursuit of fame and fortune, all as relevant today as in 1923 ¿ one reason that this remains required reading for investors. The writing style is quaintly dated and Runyon-esque. Lefèvre¿s use of old market jargon ('plungers,' 'bucket shops,' 'bear raids' and stock 'operators' instead of brokers) reminds readers that this is a journalistic, a novelistic and a fiscal period piece. The illustrations by M.L. Blumenthal evoke its original publication date. Interestingly, market bubbles, whether in high-tech, railroads or real estate, remain basically as emotional and nonrational as they were in the early 1920s, so the lessons here remain meaningful. Speaking from that more innocent time, Lefèvre provides lasting market insights, including Livermore¿s investing secrets. He distills the eternal truth that markets only go up or down, and that investors run on fear and greed. We strongly suggest this classic to serious investors and financial reporters. As you read it, you will hear the voice of its time and its lessons for today.

The More Things Change, The More They Stay the Same

Whether you want to read this to understand the techniques and mentality of current or past stock trading, or whether you just want to read a fantastic novel, this book has it all. More than anything, one finds that the more things change, the more they stay the same. The subject of the book, Mr. Livingston (who is really Mr. Livermore), compares the similarities between the successful and unsuccessful speculators of the 1860s to those of the newer generations up to the 1920s. Although written in 1923, this book is clearly as relevant today as it was back then.

As valid today as when written in 1923.

Jesse Livermore was a shrewd speculator who acted in the spirit of his times. A lot can be learned about his methods and concepts, many of which are still valid today, by reading ¿Reminiscences of a Stock Operator¿ by Edwin Lefevre. This is supposed to be Jesse Livermore¿s autobiography. I highly recommend it to all present day investors, traders and stock market speculators.
