Overview

Between 1981 and 1987, former Commodores frontman Lionel Richie emerged as one of the decade's most successful solo artists with a string of inescapable, chart-topping singles that included classics such as "Hello," "All Night Long," and "Truly." Since then, however, with the exception of a modest comeback with 1996's Louder than Words, Richie has yet to recapture the pop and R&B chart success he once enjoyed. But as the title of his seventh solo disc suggests, Renaissance marks the rebirth of the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter's stalled career. By employing the talents of current hit-making R&B and dance music producers such as Rodney Jerkins (Brandy, Spice Girls) and Brian Rawling (Enrique Iglesias, Cher), Richie ushers his sound into the new millennium with street-credible style. From the Latin-flavored "Cinderella" to the acoustic-guitar-driven ballad "Tonight," Richie's lush vocals sound as vibrant as they did in the '80s. The disc's party-inspiring first single, "Angel," is likely to work makeover wonders for the music veteran's career, just as the ubiquitous dance hit "Believe" did for Cher's in '99. Since it was released internationally in late 2000, Renaissance has been certified platinum in Germany. And the new-and-improved Richie seems poised to get back to where he belongs -- atop the U.S. charts.

this is the best Lionell Richie album I have ever herd. He has still got the stills to write love songs that have a beet.It just proves that Richie is still popular with people from another generation.

I have always loved Lionel Richie's music. This is the BEST album yet. The song ''How Long'' really touches me - what a beautiful, haunting melody!!!!!! I had to rush right out and buy the CD. Now I'm already learning this tune on the guitar - This entire CD is just wonderful!
