Fans responded well to the remix of his first solo effort, Momentum, so in the wake of Tobymac's Dove Award-winning sophomore album, Welcome to Diverse City, the former Toby McKeehan undoubtedly thought, "Why not?" Renovating->Diverse City is a lean but buoyant collection that never overstays its welcome, despite appearing just a little over a year after the original. Some of these remixes aren't tweaked very severely. Neither the "Shortwave Radio" version of "Burn for You" nor "Getaway Car" sound much different beyond their amplified rhythms. (A more drastically reimagined "Burn for You" is available as a bonus track.) However, Christopher Stevens and Brent Milligan transform the anthemic guitar pop of "Gone" into a contemplative, gentle reverie with layered harmonies and a string section. "Slam" gets a makeover, too. The original was pretty overwrought, a too-obvious take on Saliva's secular world X-Games hit "Click Click Boom." But on Renovating->Diverse City it's not nearly as eager, drifting closer to Linkin Park with its plaintive piano loops and letting the raps in the middle breathe a little. Like Re: Mix Momentum, Renovating->Diverse City is almost exclusively for the Tobymac faithful. Despite the remixing and abbreviated track list, it's too close to the original to stand on its own. But for the devoted it's a reinforcement of that album's messages, and does offer a fresh look at a few of the songs.

the Toby Mac cd Renovating Diverse City is to great to be explained in one measly paragraph, but I'll try. Many would say that this cd is "off the hook" but to me that does it no justice excellent by default and wonderful by the poetry within the songs. The words flow as if he was a natural born rapper. If you don't believe that every word I speak is true than listen to it from wherever you can and if you don't like it give me a quick e-mail of complaits.

Renovating Diverse City proves that remix CDs don't have to be the same old thing all over again. By mixing it up, toby gives listeners the opportunity to hear his songs in a new and fresh way. I especially like Catchafire and Burn For You.

This album is way better than Remix Momentum, it actually features some remixing ont the vocals, and put some more cool instuments in to some of the songs, one of the songs even has a apanish/latino tint to it, great album, highly recomended especially if you thought that the original diverse city could have used just a little more life.

I love this CD. Even though it's a re-mix and has his son on it once again, some songs are better than the original. This CD is worth buying because the songs are beyond awesome and it will be in your CD player for awhile.

Tobymac has done it again!! I just got his CD and the music ROCKS!!! I've been a toby fan ever since he was in DC Talk. He has changed so much. In a good way of course. He's music is much better now. I loved all of his 3 CD's!!

Being a long time Toby listener... starting from way back with Nu Thang, when DC Talk was still around. This, is Beautiful music, bringing Toby's heart out again... While it may not be Toby's mix, it's other producers mixing it up, allowing the music to be slightly different, but with the same great words that he has written. Sometimes, when i'm listening to rap, i don't want to play it around my little sister (who's six) but with toby, i don't have to worry, because i'm not worried about the swears and degenerate lyrics.... she's actually getting a good message, in music that both of us love.

I was listening to this in my car, and I found myself giving every track a 4 or 5 star rating on my iPod, which is a very rare thing. There are no 3 star songs on here. It is much much better than the Momentum remix. It is a truly refreshing album to listen too. It's definitely one of the highest rated albums in my iTunes library. If you like good Hip-Hop, this album is a solid purchase.

I’m a long time Toby Mac and DC Talk listener and when I first heard Toby Mac’s new CD Renovating Diverse city, I was blown away…it has everything I wanted to hear in a CD. From Jazz to Rap, and beats that just make you want to move. So for all of you thinking about buying Renovating Diverse City I highly recommend you doing so.

Awesome! First of all, I have the original record. As far as I'm concerned, all the remixes are better than the originals. And no two remixes sounded alike. Some sounded epic, like Catchafire, while others had techno rockin' tunes, such as Diverse City. And I must say, I thought the upbeat remix of The Slam was infinately better than the hard rock original, though it incredible as well.

This is the best CD I've ever heard! I love TobyMac and his music & message. "The Slam" remix is totally awesome! That and the "Diverse City" remix are my two favorite tracks on the album! I highly recommend this CD to everyone.

I bought welcome to diverse city when it first came out, and I thought it was awesome! And I don't have the money to buy this cd right now, but I plan on getting it. This is not a remix of Welcome to Diverse City, it's Renovating Diverse City!

I believe that this is tobyMac's best disc yet! The remix of Catchafire is nothing short of genius. Other mixes that deserve mention are The Slam, Diverse City, Burn For You (both of them!), and Hey Now. Also, the TRUdog track is the best one yet!

It's hard to change or fix something that is not only NOT broken, but also already great, BUT Toby and his legion of musical artists and friends have put out one of the BEST and HOTTEST sounds to the Christian and Secular listening Audience once again! You already had musical greats such as Toby and Dj Maj Rapping, Vocals by Beautiful Miss Nirva "D", and they return with another fellow label artist of Gotee Records (Toby's Co Creation/Production), Paul Wright... Dj Maj, what can you say, he's always fresh and hip Nirva and Paul give there strong vocals and unique talent that you see in their performances with Mike Tait in Hero (music and lyrics written by Eddie Degarmo executive Producer of Forefront Records, Toby's Label for his music and DcTalk's as well, and Bob Farrell, musical legends of Degarmo and Key and Farrell and Farrell respectively, check out Hero if you don't already own a copy). Also Contributing Musical Talents Tricia Brock and Max Hsu from Alternative/Rock band Superchic(k) Max has worked with Toby on "Stories (Down to the Bottom)" - Diverse City, and also the likes of Mike Tait of Tait and Dc Talk, Steven Curtis Chapman on the Veggie Tales Soundtrack, as well as on an album with Jump 5. Then you have Solomon Olds who has worked on various projects both vocally and instrumentally, but you might know him better from The Brothers, or as the son of Jerome Olds another old school great. -SO how can this album be bad?! WELL it AIN'T!!! Check out the returning champ of a song "The Slam" Track 2 (featured in both an upcoming TV series and “The Transporter 2”-look and listen for Toby’s music) this song, which you can rap, sing and move to, it's a POWERHOUSE, lyrically speaking of Faith, Jesus, and just plain keeping Faith in adversity and our mixed up daily lives. Then you have another favorite coming in for a 3 pointer "Catchafire" Track 9, which is a BONFIRE! And both of these just as The Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost go hand in hand, so do these two songs go with "Burn For You" Track 4, which is the most emotionally written and heartfelt song, that can move one to tears. Now if you like Latin music then listen to "Atmosphere" Track 11, which has both the Latin sound and Espanol to boot, it's also a great re-mix! Bottom line is, just as Toby, Mike and Kevin showed us in DcTalk, that as they grew in their lives and walk with God, their musical talent progressed and got EVEN better... Toby and his Collaborators this collage of musical genre and genius have again updated and made Toby's Solo Sophomore Album, Welcome to Diverse City, fresh hot music that is loyal to the original yet distinctly NEW. Renovating Diverse City, Check it out and grab a copy if you haven't already for yourself and the youth ministry at your Church while you’re at it! -Jim Higy Fort Worth, Texas Sept 4th, 2005

I was a bit skeptical when I bought this album b/c I am not a big fan of Re:Mixes in general. But I've really enjoyed TobyMac's other cds, so I thought I'd give it a try. Not only was the price affordable, you get way more than you pay for! With 10 songs from Welcome to Diverse City all remastered and re:mixed by some of the most awesome producers in the biz, and even 2 new songs-a new Tru-Dogg installment and a new little ditty sung by Paul Wright. I was very excited to hear that all of the re:mixed songs sound completely different from the originals. Whether it be the speed, rhythm, or lyrics to the song. It was very refreshing after listening to Welcome to Diverse City for a year. Great way to end the summer and begin a new school year. (even Tru-Dogg agrees)

It's so unfair to listen to the original version of a song and then the remix, and be asked to tell which is your favorite. The songs by Tobymac are so different that they're like two different songs. The instrumentation in the Remix album is awesome. I hope you enjoy it.

Awesome CD!! Toby mixed everything up, hip-hop, rap, latino, rock... It's great. It's like when you'd find a room full of poeple who wouldn't normally hang out b/c of the "differences", but when their all together in harmony its AWESOME!! Atmosphere is great, and Burning for you, both of them are great!! Even a little electronica! LOVE IT!!

This was a super, crazy, awesome cd!! "Ill-M-I" and "Burn For You" are my favorites. The music is diverse, and there are several really cool guest musicians too. It is a great cd, and worth ne price.
